Reunited! Usopp Tells Nami's True Story

Standing among the rice paddies, Nami spells out her loyalty to the Arlong Pirates and urges the Straw Hats to clear off before they end up captured. Luffy flatly refuses, sprawling across the road to nap rather than abandon the navigator he still wants for his crew. Frightened of the danger ahead, Johnny and Yosaku say their goodbyes to Zoro and slip away from the group.

Usopp then turns up alive and rejoins everyone, explaining that Nami drove her blade through the back of her own hand instead of him, which let him slip away unhurt. Out at sea, Nojiko sits with Nami and admits the time spent with the pirates left her sister with genuinely fond memories. Nojiko afterward seeks out the crew to begin recounting how she and Nami were brought up.

The Marine 77th Branch, commanded by Commodore Pudding Pudding, sails in to evacuate Gosa Village survivors and seize Arlong. Arlong dispatches only three of his officers in response. Chew rattles the sailors aboard, Kuroobi rips the rudder loose, and Hatchan spins up an artificial whirlpool that swallows the warship and its crew. To keep Nami from buying back Cocoyasi Village, Arlong then calls in the 16th Branch under Captain Nezumi. The episode closes by establishing that Bell-mere, a former Marine, raised both Nami and Nojiko in the village.

The manga cuts rapidly between Arlong Park, Cocoyasi Village, the crew, and the sisters' home almost page by page, while the anime gathers each location into longer continuous blocks. Several beats are reworked: a hooded Usopp races through a forest recalling Nami's sacrifice rather than wandering a village, Chabo leads Nojiko through the woods to the shore, and Arlong's officers debate Nami's maps and payment at greater length, with Hatchan acting surprised about the gathered money. Nami also relives invented moments, including a card game with Luffy and Usopp and a scene patching a leak in the Going Merry, where the manga simply has her doze off.
