The Show Begins! Blackbeard's Plot Is Revealed!

The report of Whitebeard's death travels across every sea, and the onlookers at Sabaody understand how badly it will rock the balance of the world. Rayleigh, watching from afar, quietly sees his old rival off to the next life. People learn the true name and history of Edward Newgate, the man who once stood against Roger, while Doflamingo cheers and judges Teach to be a sharp planner. Catching his breath, Teach laughs at his own triumph, and the Sabaody crowd starts asking aloud whether the One Piece is truly out there.

Driven to charge, Marco is talked into withdrawing by Vista, who also cautions that the still unconscious Luffy must be carried clear of every trap and lure. Jinbe pleads forgiveness for being unable to rescue Ace or Whitebeard but resolves to keep Luffy safe. He remembers the words Ace gave him back in Impel Down, asking that his younger brother be watched over. Buggy wails that his scheme to kill Whitebeard came to nothing and bolts, his former prisoners weeping at what they mistake for a lesson in sympathy before chasing after him. Hancock leaves Luffy to Jinbe and shatters Pacifistas with her kicks, and as Aokiji ices over the water, Akainu orders that no pirate be spared.

Stepping between Akainu and his prey, Ivankov and Inazuma stall the admiral with hormone techniques and a great scissor wall raised against the lava. Teach's restless crew finally gets its show. Laffitte heralds a grand event, the cloth is torn away, and Blackbeard stands over the dead Emperor. He calls darkness from the Yami Yami no Mi in one hand and, against all reason, a tremor from the Gura Gura no Mi in the other, commanding two Devil Fruits at the same time. The Marines recoil in disbelief as Teach announces that fate itself has handed him the world to rule.

News of Whitebeard's death reaches the entire world, Rayleigh among the listeners. Jinbe lifts the unconscious Luffy and bears him toward the escape vessels, keeping the promise he made to Ace. Ivankov and Inazuma delay Akainu long enough to shield Luffy, and Hancock dismantles several Pacifistas. The climax comes as Blackbeard reveals he has seized Whitebeard's Gura Gura no Mi, performing the unheard of feat of channeling two Devil Fruit powers through a single body and laying claim to the world.

The print version placed the Yami Yami no Mi in Teach's left hand and the Gura Gura no Mi in his right, and the anime reverses that arrangement. This installment also depicts Akainu hauling himself out of the crevice Whitebeard tore open, a feat only spoken of on the page. The duel between Ivankov and Akainu is lengthened to bring Inazuma into it, the sequence recalling Ace and Luffy that runs through Jinbe's memory is drawn out, the Pacifista scan now displays Jinbe's bounty, and Hancock is shown wrecking more of the cyborgs than before. A fresh scene has Buggy inventing reasons not to strike during the captains' fight, and Koby has already roused from Luffy's earlier blow. The episode draws from the bulk of Chapter 577.
