On Kuraigana Island, the ground where Zoro once trained, newspapers arrive by bird. Mihawk accepts his copy, and Perona, who is bringing him pastries, is shaken to find Moria splashed across the front page over a zombie raid. Overjoyed that he survives, she resolves to set out and reach him. Mihawk endorses the choice, remarking that a troubling subject had come up at the Levely. Off on Hachinosu, the so-called pirate paradise, Blackbeard sits in shadow beside an article on Sabo when Moria's undead host storms in, demanding both Absalom and an audience with Teach.

Moria catches sight of Absalom and feels relief, then is struck from behind by an unseen foe. The attacker proves to be Shiryu, now carrying Absalom's invisibility fruit, while the Absalom in view turns out to be Catarina Devon using a disguise power. Moria grasps with horror that Absalom was slain so the ability could be taken. Once he reaches the false Absalom, the words to halt his undead leave his lips, but Blackbeard's tremor pulls his gaze, a Den Den Mushi warning sounds, and the island's people are told aboard the ship.
