A dying Roger disbands his crew and Rayleigh ferries Oden home. Oden returns to a Wano Country twisted by Orochi's tyranny and resolves to confront the shogun.
Having become the first Pirate King, Roger knows his terminal illness is closing in as Marines and rival pirates hunt him ever harder, so he disbands the Roger Pirates. Rayleigh takes the ship to carry the crew home, returning Oden to Wano Country first. There Oden is horrified to learn how drastically Orochi has reshaped the land in his absence.
Recalling voices from Fish-Man Island that foretold a new king after him, Roger leaves his crew at an island and entrusts Rayleigh with the ship. Oden reunites with his wife and children to a joyful welcome, since Toki had become beloved for aiding the town, and he meets his retainers save Ashura, who reverted to banditry, and Denjiro, who roams borrowing money. Kin'emon recounts the country's fall: after Sukiyaki's reported death, Orochi seized the shogunate, and backed by Kaidou he wielded near-total power, raising weapons factories run on slavery. When the Scabbards left to protest a family's execution, Kaidou's men stormed Kin'emon's palace and tried to kill Momonosuke, leaving Toki shot in the leg shielding her son. Furious, Oden vows to confront Orochi and tells the others to guard Kuri.

The anime adds Rayleigh and Roger reminiscing about their first meeting, Shanks telling Buggy the crew has returned, and the Marines and rival pirates, including Garp and Shiki, hunting Roger. Pandaman can be spotted among the Kuri citizens greeting Oden's return.

The Roger Pirates as a crew did not sail to Wano Country together. After the crew disbanded, Rayleigh personally escorted Oden, one of Roger's crewmates, back to his homeland of Wano.
