CP8

This branch is one of the World Government's Cipher Pol agencies. While its exact niche is never defined, CP8 enjoys a strong reputation, drawing tasks of considerable weight, with only CP9 and CP0 standing above it in the Cipher Pol pecking order. Like their counterparts, its operatives carry out infiltration, spying, and surveillance jobs. They proved convincing enough to pass as physicians without raising suspicion, though carelessness ultimately undid that cover. At least one of them, Alpha, displayed command of a Six Powers technique.

The unit's notable operation centered on the Sorbet Kingdom, where agents led by Alpha posed as doctors to keep watch over Jewelry Bonney. The goal was to ensure Bartholomew Kuma honored his pact with the World Government to stay away until his Pacifista conversion was finished. Over the following months they destroyed every letter Kuma sent to Bonney and fed the girl counterfeit medicine. Roughly a year into her treatment, some agents drank too much and let their true identities and purpose slip. Bonney seized on this to flee with other islanders, and though Alpha caught on and tried to stop them, the girl knocked her out.

Alpha headed the team embedded in the Sorbet Kingdom. Later, a CP8 ship dispatched to Egghead to look into the vanished CP5 and CP7 agents found nothing, and on leaving, York had the Sea Beast Weapons sink their vessel and confine them in the same lab as the earlier captives. Starving alongside the others, they were eventually released and fed by the Straw Hat Pirates, only to be swept up in the island's upheaval and ultimately secured by the Marines.
