Overview

Introduced during the Thriller Bark Arc, this crew is led by Charlotte Lola, the twenty-third daughter of the Charlotte Family. Coming from the New World, where survival demands strength, its members hold some measure of power, though never enough to fight a Warlord and his crew head-on. Instead they leaned on careful study of Gecko Moria's Devil Fruit to find a way to strike back. After fleeing Moria, they sailed away aboard the Rumbar Pirates' second ship, handed to them by Brook once he joined the Straw Hats and restored to working order by Franky.

Role

Lola assembled the crew after fleeing Totto Land to escape an arranged marriage to Loki, prince of Elbaph. Crossing to the far side of the world, the band became trapped in the Florian Triangle, where Moria seized them and stole their shadows to fuel his zombie creations. Forced to hide from sunlight, the shadowless crew discovered a crucial secret: Moria's stolen shadows could be wielded by anyone as long as they stayed apart from their owner, and several could even be packed into a single body. Working by night and sheltering in the forest by day, they gathered as many shadows as they could, hoping for a champion who could use the whole collection at once to topple Moria and his giant zombie, Oars.

Notable Members

Charlotte Lola captains the crew and was the one whose plan finally bore fruit when Monkey D. Luffy arrived. Pouring one hundred shadows into him, the crew transformed Luffy into Nightmare Luffy, who crushed the giant zombie Oars. When the island sailed into daylight, Lola, no longer fearing the sun without her shadow, stood exposed and nearly died before Moria's final defeat returned everyone's shadows. The crew also includes the Risky Brothers, who serve alongside their captain through later adventures that lead Lola to marry Gotti of the Fire Tank Pirates.
