When the former Warlord Gecko Moria robbed a group of individuals of their shadows, those victims sought one another out and pooled their efforts into a single resistance cell. Spoil chairs the collective, whose ranks also fold in members of the Rolling Pirates. For a long stretch the band had no home beyond the island itself, surviving in secret while it plotted to recover what Moria had taken.
Stripped of their shadows, the members were forced to conceal themselves in the forested reaches of Thriller Bark. Day by day their work centered on two aims: collecting information and clawing back stray shadows, of which they ultimately gathered a hundred. Once the Straw Hats set foot on the island, the association threw its weight behind them and arranged Luffy's turn into Nightmare Luffy. That loyalty came into sharp focus when Bartholomew Kuma offered to spare their lives in return for Luffy's head, and not one member consented to the trade. Even after every shadow was restored, the group elected to carry on working as one.
