Chapter 867 of One Piece exposes the dark truth of Mother Carmel. After Linlin's rampage costs Jorul his life, Carmel is revealed as a child trafficker who plots to sell the girl, only to vanish with all the orphans during Linlin's sixth birthday feast.
Jorul's strike shatters against Linlin's bare arm, and she hurls the giant hero down, mortally wounding him. As she resumes her hunt for semla, Carmel draws a fragment of her own soul and casts it into the flames, conjuring a glowing sun homie she names Pandora and passes off as the Sun God to calm the giants. Even so, Jarul cannot forgive Linlin for Jorul's fate and orders Carmel to take the child and leave Elbaph forever. Linlin wakes remembering nothing, and word of her deeds spreads until every giant despises her.
Carmel relocates the Sheep's House to another island and life carries on, but she secretly visits a World Government building and offers to sell Linlin to startled CP0 agents, boasting the girl could one day rival an Admiral. Known in the Underworld as the Mountain Witch, the orphan trafficker calls this her finest product and final deal. The Sheep's House then throws Linlin a sixth birthday tea party with a mountain of semla. Weeping with joy, she gorges herself, but when she looks up to thank everyone, Carmel and all the children have vanished. In the present, Big Mom still cries out at the memory.
Carmel is revealed as the prior user of the Soru Soru no Mi, confirming her death and explaining how a miniature sun homie can be made. Jorul dies of the wounds from Linlin's rampage, cementing the giants' hatred of her, and Carmel and the orphans are exiled from Elbaph. Carmel's true identity as a child slaver code-named Mountain Witch is exposed, along with her role in making John Giant the first Marine giant and her plan to sell Linlin to the World Government. During the birthday feast, Carmel and the Sheep's House children disappear.
This chapter belongs to the Whole Cake Island Arc. The cover continues Cavendish's tale, noting he fled his country with only seventy-four followers and five hundred million Berries. Carmel keeps nurturing the children even while knowing she means to sell them, finding the loving mother act exhausting. Linlin's vanished housemates leave her alone forever, a loss she relives in the present day.
