Chapter 965

Sailing the New World with the Whitebeard Pirates, Oden and Toki fell in love over a rough world map and welcomed their children Momonosuke and Hiyori aboard the Moby Dick. When Oden itched to fight a Marine battalion, Whitebeard explained that the Navy held sway over nearly the whole world, and that Wano, in its isolation, remained one of the few free places. Oden was appointed commander of the crew's second division, and as the voyage widened his eyes, his hunger to keep exploring only deepened.

More than thirteen years earlier, an old woman had approached Orochi with a prophecy that he would rule. She recounted how his grandfather, scheming to seize the shogunate by poisoning rival daimyo, was undone when Sukiyaki was unexpectedly born, then forced into seppuku, stripping the Kurozumi of their standing. Burning with resentment, Orochi accepted her offer of help. She revealed her Mane Mane no Mi shapeshifting and gifted him the Yamata no Orochi serpent fruit, instructing him to hoard gold and forge weapons to win powerful allies.

Orochi drained Yasuie's safe and repeatedly borrowed from Oden, then, with the old woman disguised as Oden, secured a post in the shogun's castle by claiming the two were like brothers. As the ailing Sukiyaki named Oden his heir, the same woman impersonated the shogun to install Orochi as acting regent until Oden's return. The chapter also depicts the orphan Teach joining Whitebeard's crew at twelve. In its final pages, the Whitebeard Pirates dock on an island the Roger Pirates occupy, where Roger anticipates one last battle against his rival.
