Chapter 109: Terrible Multiplying Bastard

Above ground, the Surface Team mops up weaker monsters trying to slip out of the tunnels, while the Demon-level Building Booper seals off the Striking Team's escape by dropping several buildings with explosives. Down below, Child Emperor's party reaches the manhole leading topside, only to find rubble pinning it shut. Saitama, Child Emperor, Underdog Man, and Waganma shove against it together and force it open.

When Sekingar asks Green to cut a fresh exit, he and the other heroes are floored as the collapsed buildings and Building Booper itself go flying skyward. Child Emperor climbs out with Waganma, Saitama, and Underdog Man, and everyone credits the boy, never guessing the true power came from Saitama. Sekingar spots the newcomer and asks who he is; Child Emperor vouches for Saitama as a hero he rescued. Asked whether he was a hostage, Saitama casually admits he only came down to gripe about the noise, which sends Sekingar into a rage and gets him ordered off, so he wanders back underground.

Child Emperor radios the Striking Team that Waganma is safe, and Zombieman answers with praise. Sweet Mask cuts in vowing to keep upholding justice, Pig God notes between mouthfuls that all seems well, and Atomic Samurai reports a child fleeing a black monster inside the base. Waganma realizes it must be Tareo, and the transmitter dies before a location can be shared. Set on the rescue, Child Emperor waves off help from Mizuki and Needle Star so they can hold the surface. Waganma, ashamed he hid it out of fear, confirms the boy is Tareo and describes him. Child Emperor thanks him and sets out.

Elsewhere, Atomic Samurai faces Black Sperm, who is furious at the ambush and grows a huge muscular arm when the swordsman shrugs him off. Atomic slices the limb away, boasting that giant shapeshifters are old news to him, but a new clone bursts from the severed arm. Black Sperm reveals he is a merger of countless copies able to split apart no matter how often he is cut. Atomic hacks him into fragments that only spawn more clones, and a growing swarm eventually surrounds and beats him into the floor. Cornered and battered, Atomic slashes the ceiling and brings it crashing down on everyone.

The shockwave reaches Zombieman just as Homeless Emperor appears at his back, mocking his concern for dying comrades and firing a point-blank energy beam to show how the others are being erased without resistance. A regenerated Zombieman lunges with an axe and is shot through the head. His decapitated body suddenly fires a hidden gun, but Homeless Emperor deflects it and hurls him into a wall. Zombieman keeps rising, drawing pistols and answering with volleys, only to be scorched by exploding orbs. Stalling while he heals, Zombieman asks what his foe truly is, and Homeless Emperor recounts his past: a month earlier he was a jobless man cast out of his home and shunned, humiliated by his boss and then fired on false harassment claims. Despairing, he found the Earth and sky vastly greater than anything human. Convinced people had discarded nature for hollow artificial rules, he turned suicidal, until a being he calls God appeared, endorsed his contempt for humanity, and granted him power to end civilization. When Zombieman questions why he trusts the entity as God, Homeless Emperor says belief is irrelevant, and that the hero's arrogance will kill him and return him to the Earth.

Saitama secretly opens the blocked manhole, letting Child Emperor's group and Waganma reach the surface while the heroes wrongly credit the boy. Atomic Samurai learns Black Sperm's near-limitless replication, is overwhelmed by the swarm, and collapses the ceiling in desperation. Homeless Emperor ambushes Zombieman, revealing his lethal energy attacks and his belief that a being called God chose him to destroy humanity, then recounts the despair that led to his transformation.

The one hundred ninth chapter, titled Terrible Multiplying Bastard (Fueru Yabai Yatsu) and rendered by Viz as A Dangerous Multiplying Monster, sits in Volume 23 and adapts into Episode 35. It draws partly on webcomic Chapters 63 and 64. The original digital cover was an animated gif drawn by Yusuke Murata, later replaced. A bonus page pictures Homeless Emperor bouncing on a coin-operated kiddie ride amid his floating energy orbs.
