A Japanese S-Rank Hunter, Reiji Sugimoto inherits command of the Draw Sword Guild once Goto Ryuji dies. Convinced of his guild's might, he supervises the Jeju raid from offshore and later scrambles to protect Tokyo when an S-Rank Gate splits open.
Brown locks that stop around the sides of his neck and pale green eyes mark Reiji as a handsome youth. When introduced, he favors ordinary office wear: a gray jacket atop a white collared shirt, finished with a black tie. Come the Japan Crisis Arc, that look gives way to the guild's dark combat gear, and he ties his hair back into a ponytail.
Confidence and fierce loyalty to his guild's name define Reiji. So certain is he of his commander's supremacy that he treats it as fact that nobody among Korea's Hunters could ever stand level with Goto Ryuji in raw power.

Naruto vs Luffy with the twist nobody asked for: Luffy tickled Hinata on date night, and she kind of liked it. We break down the whole fight and commit to a winner....

There are no women on Namek. That isn't an oversight, it's the biology. Why we handed Piccolo the one thing his own species rules out, and why it had to be trap soul....
With the Jeju Island Raid still four days off, Goto phones Reiji to share what Korea has shown him so far. Goto wonders aloud whether Jinwoo could be the stronger man, and Reiji simply laughs the notion away, noting that the Korean raid roster does not even list Jinwoo. Of all Draw Sword's S-Ranks, Reiji alone stays clear of the raid proper; his post is one of the battleships anchored off the island, his job to keep everything running to plan. Things go smoothly until the Ant Queen's dying scream pulls every ant rushing back toward her. Reiji passes the warning along, then hears Goto's line go dead as the Ant King fells his commander in one blow.
As Jinwoo squares off against the Ant King, Reiji informs Matsumoto Shigeo, who chairs the Japanese Hunters Association, that Goto has died, and gets the three remaining Draw Sword members, Hoshino, Kanae, and Kumamoto, safely off the island. Hoshino fills him in on exactly how the Ant King took Goto down, then starts spiraling into despair. Reiji shuts the babbling down, relaying that Korea's Hunters Association has just confirmed a Hunter of theirs slew the Ant King, the raid a success bought with severe losses. His earlier conversation with Goto fresh in mind, Reiji works out that Jinwoo had to be the one who downed the King, proving his late commander's wariness justified.
Goto's death leaves the Guild Master seat to Reiji. Some weeks on, an S-Rank Gate bursts open in the middle of Tokyo, and he brings in the Russian S-Rank Yuri Orloff, swallowing an outrageous price of ten million dollars per day to wall the gate off with barrier magic. When that barrier cannot contain the giants pouring out, the last image of Reiji has him ordering his guildmates against them, stalling the giants so the civilians still in the city can flee.
