Summary

Chloe and the Lieutenant rouse the battered Yuri, and the Lieutenant sends him topside for medical care while pressing on alone, aware Twilight bested him. On the way out Yuri keeps circling one question: why was he left alive, and what would the answer imply?

Below, Wheeler wrenches the unconscious Loid into position to snap his neck and orders the enraged Fiona to disarm; she complies by crushing her pistol underfoot. Reading her attachment to Twilight, Wheeler lectures her on his personal code: invest nothing in anyone, extend trust to no one, and the world stays perfectly clear. That detachment, he claims, is exactly why neither she nor Twilight can ever beat him. Fiona charges in blind fury. Her punch is fully telegraphed, but its raw speed makes Wheeler second-guess his response, and the blow that lands flattens him while snapping her right arm.

A narration explains that the mind's built-in inhibitors normally stop people from drawing on their complete strength, since doing so tears muscle and bone apart; Fiona's fury has burned every one of those safeguards away. She brands Wheeler weak, an empty man who toys with the world purely to amuse himself because he can believe in nobody, and names her faith in Twilight as the reason she will not lose. Her follow-up left dislocates at the shoulder when he dodges, so she converts the miss into a spinning kick that connects while breaking her leg. Wheeler staggers upright, gambling that her wrecked limbs leave him room to retreat, and instead takes a hook thrown with the dislocated arm that ends the fight.
