:re Chapter 100

Inside the main office a Special Class meeting convenes, with Kuki Urie observing from a pillar as a haggard Matsuri Washuu sits alongside Juuzou Suzuya, Iwao Kuroiwa, Koori Ui, and a recovered Mougan Tanakamaru. They review Tsuneyoshi Washuu's will, which names Souta Washuu-Furuta as the CCG's next head. Unsure of the unproven candidate, they summon him, and he strolls in late blaming the press. Pressed about his stint partnering Haise Sasaki, Furuta paints the man's conduct during the Takatsuki pursuit as troubling, citing forced entries and harsh interrogations, though he chalks it up to fierce dedication. He notes that contact with Sasaki is lost, that the man now styles himself the One-Eyed King, and that surviving Aogiri ghouls have rallied to him.

Away from the room, Koori broods over cigarettes and realizes he has lost everyone who mattered to him, Arima, Take Hirako, Hairu Ihei, and even Sasaki, leaving him unsure what he still fights for. At Yukinori Shinohara's bedside, Juuzou admits to Iwao that he has braced for Sasaki turning enemy and, though he counts him a friend who treated him with rare kindness, accepts what may have to be done. In his office Matsuri probes Urie's loyalty, and Urie unnerves him by naming Matsuri the ideal next Bureau Director before being told to keep watch on Furuta. Left alone, Matsuri strips bare and confesses to himself that he may be in love with Urie.

In a corridor Urie presses Mutsuki and Saiko for progress on locating Sasaki. Saiko outlines the Quinx effort while Mutsuki quietly withholds a hunch about the :re cafe. Once Urie departs, Mutsuki confides that he was born a woman, unaware that Saiko already knew and was instead puzzled by the smell of human blood on him.

Underground, Kazuichi Banjou nervously channels his kagune to heal Akira Mado, a first for him, while Hinami Fueguchi reassures him and reflects that she can accept the daughter of the man who killed her mother because Akira matters to Kaneki. Seidou Takizawa yawns in the corner. The chapter closes as Furuta, startled, greets Ken Kaneki and wonders if he has come to kill him, only for Kaneki to correct the title, calling himself the former Associate Special Class. A closing proverb about making hay while the sun shines underscores seizing a chance before it passes.
