:re Chapter 119

Akira Mado discovers that Amon entered her apartment through a broken window, and she needles the former investigator for resorting to breaking and entering. His attempt at an apology stalls when she cuts in, confessing that she had sealed herself off from everything except her work, feeling neither content nor irritated, only lost. Once he steps away, she regrets holding back the full truth and admits to herself that she has no idea how to meet his eyes.

Amon rejoins Kaneki outside, and the half-ghoul reads his quiet mood as a sign the talk went poorly, comparing it to his own failed attempt. Amon recounts fleeing Aogiri Tree and the researchers he calls Kanou's Dogs, then hiding while he taught himself to control his kagune, which prompts Kaneki to mention that Touka once trained him the same way. The two former adversaries marvel at sitting together as allies.

Their exchange turns philosophical. Kaneki says he never believed Amon truly wanted him dead beyond their first clash, and Amon reflects that society reduces ghouls to man-eating monsters and nothing more. When Amon presses him on why an ex-human would devote himself to ghouls, Kaneki answers that he fights only for the people he loves, calling it his reason to exist rather than anything noble. Amon admits the sentiment feels familiar and says he will keep watching the world to decide his own path, adding that he would be frightened if the dead returned to him.

At a shipping yard, investigators sniff out a ghoul mother and her child hidden in a crate and cut them down without hesitation. Furuta then unveils the Oggai, sharp-nosed hunters built to swell the CCG's ranks, musing about his hundred Kaneki copies. Meanwhile Touka steps into Akira's room, noting the woman has not yet healed and asking whether they can speak.

Amon and Akira share a strained conversation about her isolation. Kaneki and Amon debate their reasons for fighting, with Kaneki naming his loved ones as his sole motivation. Investigators kill a ghoul mother and child at a shipping yard. Furuta introduces the Oggai as scent-tracking recruits and references his hundred Kaneki duplicates. Touka approaches Akira to talk.
