Yajirobe delivers a message from Korin summoning Krillin, Yamcha, Tien Shinhan, and Chiaotzu to the Lookout for specialized training under Kami. Meanwhile, Bulma successfully repairs Raditz's scouter, giving the group their first piece of alien technology.

Everything changes when the full moon appears over Gohan's mountain. The moment its light touches his eyes, the Saiyan blood in his veins takes over, and the small boy transforms into a colossal Great Ape. All reason and personality vanish, replaced by raw destructive fury. The rampaging creature tears through the landscape, smashing rock formations and uprooting trees with abandon.

Piccolo observes the transformation from a distance and quickly realizes that he cannot allow this to continue. Rather than simply restraining Gohan, he destroys the moon itself, eliminating the source of the transformation permanently. As Gohan shrinks back to his normal form, Piccolo removes his tail for good measure, ensuring the boy can never transform again. Kai's streamlined approach is particularly evident in this episode. The original Dragon Ball Z devoted multiple episodes to Gohan's wilderness survival arc, padding it with filler sequences. Here, the essential beats are preserved while the pacing remains tight, covering ground that originally took several episodes in a single installment.

The destruction of the moon is a significant plot point that resonates forward through the series, removing the Great Ape transformation as a factor for Earth's defenders while setting up the conditions for Vegeta's later workaround during the Saiyan battle.
