Appearance

Lisa carries herself as a young adult with turquoise eyes framed by oval red glasses and long black hair, worn with front bangs and a braid gathered at the back. Her everyday dress is a long sleeved sailor style uniform, its collar and pleated miniskirt done in teal and finished with a pink neckerchief, a Japanese school look that sets her apart from the western uniforms of Karakura High. Back in her Soul Society years she wore an altered shihakushō with a skirt like hakama, kept her hair in two shorter braided pigtails, and favored squared red frames instead.

Seventeen months on from the war with Aizen, she reties her hair into a high, shoulder length ponytail with bangs falling on either side of her face. A decade after Yhwach's defeat she returns to a braided ponytail and dons a captain's haori, having modified her robes to leave her midriff and cleavage exposed.

Personality

Among the Visored, Lisa ranks as one of the steadier and more level headed, carrying a stern, guarded, and rather private air even as she flares up quickly when irritated. Her best known quirk is a fondness for adult josei manga and swimsuit magazines, which she cheerfully foists on the others, Love and a protesting Ichigo included. Curiosity runs deep in her, to the point that she used to eavesdrop on the captains' meetings during her time in the Seireitei. For all her aloofness she looks out for her comrades, once shouting a warning to Kensei about an incoming strike, and she shares a teasing, flirtatious rapport with her old captain Shunsui Kyōraku.

History

Roughly a century ago, Lisa served as lieutenant of the 8th Division beneath Captain Shunsui Kyōraku. When members of a 9th Division investigation team vanished in Rukongai, Shunsui put her forward for the follow up party rather than risk both Kidō Corps officers, and she joined an inquiry alongside Rōjūrō Ōtoribashi, Shinji Hirako, Love Aikawa, and Hachigen Ushōda. At the site they found comrades already warped by Hollowfication, part of a secret experiment orchestrated by Sōsuke Aizen. Lisa herself began to Hollowfy, and only the intervention of Kisuke Urahara, Tessai Tsukabishi, and Yoruichi Shihōin spared the victims from execution and carried them to the living world to seek a cure.

In the present day she lends her warehouse and her fists to Ichigo Kurosaki, taking a turn against his rampaging inner Hollow and coming away with a wounded arm. When the Visored march on the fake Karakura Town, she reunites briefly with Shunsui, stepping on his head and vowing to show how much stronger she has grown, then shreds Gillian class Menos apart with her blindingly fast blade technique Senmaioroshi. She next stands alone against the Espada Tier Harribel and releases her Shikai in the fight, though the clash ends abruptly when Aizen intrudes and shears her weapon's blade clean off.

During the Thousand Year Blood War she returns to the Soul Society, dons a shihakushō once more, and joins the push into Wahrwelt, where she, Hachigen, and Love are swatted aside by the giant Gerard Valkyrie. Ten years after Yhwach falls, Lisa formally rejoins the Gotei 13 as captain of the 8th Division, with Yuyu Yayahara as her lieutenant. Her sword, Haguro Tonbo, answers the command Smash by stretching into a long pole arm tipped with a spade like blade on one end and a heavy striking ball on the other, and her Hollow mask, marked by a cross shaped opening, floods her with extra strength and speed for up to three minutes at a stretch.
