Mashiro Kuna

Mashiro is a young, hazel-eyed woman with lime-green hair and a set of goggles perched on top of it. Her signature outfit, a white bodysuit paired with orange gloves, a scarf, and matching boots, deliberately echoes the costumed heroes of 1970s Japanese tokusatsu television.

A century ago in Soul Society she wore an ordinary Soul Reaper robe with overlong sleeves, a pink scarf, and sunglasses resting in her then-wavier hair. After returning to the Gotei 13, she dons the robe once more but keeps her goggles, gloves, and boots on underneath, adding a homemade armband stamped with a 9 and the word Super.

Despite once holding a lieutenant's post within the elite ranks of the Gotei 13, she behaves like a hyperactive child. Flighty and oblivious to the larger stakes around her, she pitches fits over trivia and drives her captain Kensei to distraction, so much so that he wonders aloud why he ever kept her on; she manages to irritate him even in her sleep, where she mumbles suggestively about him. She tags Ichigo with the nickname Berry-tan and counts Hachigen Ushōda among her close friends.

In a fight, however, she shifts gears, striking heroic poses and hamming it up like a costumed crime-fighter as she attacks and celebrates her wins.

Roughly a hundred years ago Mashiro served as lieutenant of the 9th Division under Captain Kensei Muguruma. Sent to look into a rash of disappearances in Rukongai, she complained the whole way and stumbled onto ten empty Soul Reaper uniforms, the only trace of a vanished vanguard. The culprit was Sōsuke Aizen, whose secret Hollowfication experiments transformed Mashiro and several others; a Hollowfied Mashiro ambushed Captain Rōjūrō Ōtoribashi with a kick before Hachigen Ushōda restrained her. Kisuke Urahara and Tessai Tsukabishi halted the process with the Hōgyoku, and when Central 46 condemned the victims, Yoruichi Shihōin spirited them away to the Human World.

Years later she joins the other Visored at the Fake Karakura Town. There she wades into a wave of Gillian, smashing their masks with her Mashiro Kick and obliterating the giant Hollow Hooleer with a single Mashiro Super Kick. She then squares off against Wonderweiss Margela, boasting that she can hold her mask for fifteen hours, and unleashes the Mashiro Super Cero, a Cero fired along the arc of her leg. Against so strong an opponent, though, her limit runs out far sooner; her mask cracks apart, and Kensei steps in to pull her from danger.

After the Aizen conflict, Mashiro rejoins the Gotei 13 as Kensei's co-lieutenant, later drilling Shūhei Hisagi, lending her Reiatsu to help raise the portal leading to the Soul King Palace, and masking up beside her fellow Visored to face Gerard Valkyrie. Her combat centers almost entirely on powerful kicks, backed by lieutenant-grade, dual Shinigami and Hollow spiritual energy. Her hornet-like Hollow mask sets her apart from the other Visored: from the very start she could sustain it for fifteen hours with no training whatsoever, a feat only battle against superior foes can cut short.
