On Sōkyoku Hill, Renji Abarai cradles Rukia Kuchiki and stalls at Aizen's baffling demand that he abandon her and flee. In the compound below, Isane Kotetsu kneels before Retsu Unohana and casts Kakushitsuijaku to pinpoint Aizen on the hill. Ordered to warn every captain, lieutenant, and even the Ryoka while Unohana rushes to save Hitsugaya and Hinamori, Isane traces the seals of Tenteikūra, linking her mind to the assembled fighters and officers scattered across the Seireitei, and relays the grim news of Aizen's betrayal.

The message lands hard across the ranks: Ukitake reels, Shunsui urges an end to the fighting, Rangiku denies that Hitsugaya could have fallen, Izuru is shaken that Gin broke his word over Hinamori, and Komamura and Hisagi are gutted by Tōsen's treachery, while Mayuri Kurotsuchi coldly declares the whole affair beneath his interest. Standing with his friends, Ichigo Kurosaki puzzles over the transmission that Orihime, having never touched anyone of the Fourth Division, could not receive. Uryū Ishida spells it out, explaining that Aizen made the Gotei 13 obey him by disguising his commands as the rulings of the supreme court, and deduces that the moved-up execution means Aizen wants Rukia dead, sending Ichigo's gaze straight to the hill.

Above, Renji still refuses to give Rukia up, and Aizen, calling him stubborn, promises to let him keep her in his arms while cutting away the rest of him as he draws his blade. The chapter opens with a mass telepathic broadcast that reorients the entire cast toward the conspiracy. Part of the Soul Society arc and collected in the twentieth volume, it was adapted into the sixty-first episode of the anime.
