Inside the Kurosaki Clinic, Rukia caps off a weepy tale of having lost everything and gone broke, which so moves Isshin and Yuzu that they immediately beg her to move in for good. Ichigo worries her cheeky thumbs-up will blow the ruse, then relents when father and sister proudly tell Masaki's portrait that the family has gained a third daughter, all under Karin's watchful stare. Far above the town, a tear in the sky opens to drop off two more Arrancar, Shawlong Koufang and Nakeem Grindina.

Across town, Orihime agrees to host Rangiku for the night even though she cannot fathom why she was picked. Rangiku pulls her into a bath and, sensing her low mood, threatens playful harm until she opens up. Orihime confesses that watching Rukia snap Ichigo out of his slump left her ashamed of her own envy, that she adores Rukia yet resents her only when she is home alone. Rangiku bursts in and tickles her breathless, then tells her that jealousy is not a flaw, that Ichigo needs both of them right now, and that wrestling honestly with such feelings is proof of a good heart. Orihime breaks down against her.

Perched on a rooftop, Grimmjow gathers his Fracción as Shawlong reports sensing several strong spiritual signatures that clash with Ulquiorra's account. Grimmjow and his subordinates sweep the area with Pesquisa and conclude that reinforcements have arrived from Soul Society, a turn he blames on Ulquiorra choosing to spare Ichigo. Fed up with that mercy, he orders his men to butcher anyone carrying even a flicker of spiritual energy.

The chapter belongs to Volume 23, MALA SUERTE!, within the Arrancar arc. Its events were adapted into Episode 116 of the anime, The Evil Eye, Aizen Again. Shawlong Koufang and Nakeem Grindina make their first appearance in Karakura's skies here, setting up the coordinated Arrancar assault that dominates the rest of the volume.
