All is Lost

At the Kurosaki Clinic, a frightened Yuzu clings to her sister Karin, who keeps playing her game through what they take for a lengthy earthquake. Yuzu knocks over a drink, apologizes, and frets, while Karin shrugs off the spill but grows uneasy at how long the shaking has dragged on.

Up in the sovereign's ruined hall, Ichigo Kurosaki crumples before the split Soul King as Yhwach reminds him it was always too late. Demanding to know why he cannot pry the Reishi Sword from his hand, Ichigo hears that Yhwach's power, The Almighty, lets him behold every future and grant or seize any power, including the Reiatsu dwelling in that very blade, which reached out to Ichigo's blood. Enraged, Ichigo tears through the Blut on his hand, draws both halves of Zangetsu, and lunges, only for Yhwach to block him and ask whether he still has any reason to fight with Soul Society already ending.

Down in the laboratory, the officers watch the opened roof begin to crumble. Sui-Feng rules out an attack since no Quincy energy is present, and Urahara concludes that the Soul King has died, which means all three worlds are on the verge of vanishing. Back above, Yoruichi Shihoin wraps Yhwach in strands of her Tenshi Heiso and orders Orihime Inoue to mend the sovereign, but Orihime's Soten Kisshun shatters at once. As Yhwach scoffs that no mere human can revive the Soul King, a despairing Renji Abarai cries out for any answer, and a shadow rises to swallow Jushiro Ukitake.

The tremors from the Soul King's death reach the Human World, felt by Karin and Yuzu in Karakura. Yhwach explains that The Almighty grants him command over all powers and futures. Orihime's attempt to restore the Soul King fails instantly, and Urahara warns that every world will cease to exist as a shadow begins to engulf Ukitake.

The chapter belongs to the sixty-eighth volume, THE ORDINARY PEACE, and its scenes were spread across anime episodes 394, 395, and 405. The closing shadow sets up Ukitake's use of Kamikake in the following chapter.
