Kumbaya

A Public Safety officer reports that every Chainsaw Man Church branch in Japan has fallen and their arsenals confiscated. He orders a victim group assembled from the parents of the minor members and the media summoned to wring the scandal for sympathy. He then green-lights the capture of the War Devil, Asa Mitaka, lamenting that he had hoped she would turn Chainsaw Man into a weapon. Told the Devil Name Consultant wishes to speak, he muses that the Church merely wanted to play at being Chainsaw Man.

Public Safety arrests Barem, revealed as the Church's second-in-command. When Fumiko asks why he would not simply join their side, given they already employ Quanxi and Katana Man, he asks instead for a quiet moment, since sunset is his favorite hour. The higher-up meets the Name Consultant, who reports that the Falling Devil's client was the genuine Justice Devil and that the cultist who became the new Justice Devil after the raid proves the impostor and the true Justice Devil are separate beings. Elsewhere, Asa and Yoru watch the Okinawa chapter's raid on the news, stunned by the weapons stash. A knock and an order to surrender prompt Asa to act: she plans to weaponize the apartment, which is hers, then hand control of her body to Yoru. The War Devil praises her boldness, but before the transformation finishes, an agent smashes through the door and rushes her. As the sun goes down, Barem sings Kumbaya in prayer during his arrest, Denji prepares to take Nayuta home with Fumiko offering a ride, and the agent facing Asa is revealed to be Yoshida, who has already severed one of her arms.

Published October 11, 2023 in Volume 17, this Chainsaw Man Church arc chapter borrows its title from the spiritual Kumbaya that Barem sings. The revelation that two distinct Devils have laid claim to Justice reshapes the arc's mystery, while Yoshida's strike against Asa raises the stakes heading into the next chapter.
