Moved by Jiji's plea, Seiko halts the exorcism and chooses to adopt the Evil Eye into the family, while Okarun and Momo resolve to grow stronger to keep it in check.
As the ritual starts to wound the Evil Eye, Jiji shouts for it to stop. Seiko orders Momo to pin Jiji using her psychic powers, and the contact unexpectedly flashes a fragment of the Evil Eye's memories into Momo's mind. Jiji tearfully explains he promised to play with the spirit and vows to be more careful near cold water. Persuaded by his sincerity, Seiko douses the ritual fire with an extinguisher and announces she is calling the exorcism off, welcoming the Evil Eye into the household.
Aira balks at the added burden of endless monitoring, but Okarun pledges to better himself to manage the spirit, calling Jiji a friend. Inspired, Momo commits to getting stronger too, which pushes Aira to join in rather than be left behind by Momo. Their bickering is cut short when rain begins to fall; Seiko's warning to ready the hot water comes too late, and the Evil Eye slugs Okarun straight into the house.
With the exorcism scrapped, the Hayashi take their leave, inviting Seiko and Momo to call again, while Momo, dismayed at the wreckage, suspects that may be sooner than expected. The next day Seiko starts training Jiji to govern his ki through seiza meditation, teaching that unlocking his spiritual power is the key to restraining the Evil Eye. The chapter is in Volume 7 and adapted into Episode 18.
