Kuririn's Master Plan

Manga ChapterCh. 121

Krillin dodges Chiaotzu's finishing Dodon Ray and tags him with a direct Kamehameha. When Chiaotzu freezes him with telekinesis, Krillin realizes the trick behind the psychic power and uses simple arithmetic to break free and win the match in one of the cleverest upsets of the tournament.

A Well-Timed Kamehameha

Chiaotzu's massive Dodon Ray streaks downward while Master Shen and Tien smirk with anticipation. At the last possible instant Krillin shouts and launches straight up, letting the beam gouge a crater into the arena below. Rising to Chiaotzu's altitude, he lets loose his own Kamehameha at point-blank range and scores a direct hit. Chiaotzu is blasted clear of the ring before he halts himself in midair and floats back to the tiles. Jackie Chun grins in approval while Tien grits his teeth at seeing his friend tagged by such a simple setup.

Telekinesis Traps the Monk

Krillin charges with a spinning kick that Chiaotzu ducks, then a vertical axe kick that launches the little fighter across the ring. As Krillin closes to finish him, Chiaotzu thrusts both hands forward and Krillin freezes in place, doubled over and clutching his stomach. From the stands, Master Shen telepathically orders Chiaotzu not to eject his opponent but to beat him senseless inside the ring. Chiaotzu complies, booting the immobilized monk into the back wall. Krillin staggers up and grumbles that his head is not a soccer ball, but his attention catches on a crucial detail: Chiaotzu has to keep his hands raised to maintain the psychic hold.

The Math Problem Heard Round the Arena

Inspiration strikes and Krillin yells a sudden question: three plus four. Caught off guard, Chiaotzu instinctively drops his hands to count the answer on his fingers, releasing the hold and giving Krillin the opening he needs to slam a fist into his gut. Chiaotzu recovers and tries to retaliate with his own quiz, sixteen plus twenty-seven, but Krillin rattles off forty-three without blinking, then fires back with nine minus one. While the tiny fighter is still fumbling through the subtraction, Krillin slugs him clean out of the arena. The announcer calls the ring out and Krillin helpfully informs Chiaotzu that the answer was eight.
