Dragon Ball GT is the 64-episode sequel series produced by Toei Animation after Dragon Ball Z, airing on Fuji TV from February 7, 1996 to November 19, 1997. Unlike its predecessors it was not based on Akira Toriyama's manga but created as an original anime continuation, though Toriyama contributed character designs and the premise. The story follows an adult Goku turned back into a child by the Black Star Dragon Balls and his granddaughter Pan as they journey across space.
Emperor Pilaf's bumbling return to the Lookout leads to a catastrophic accident when he inadvertently wishes Goku back into a child using the Black Star Dragon Balls. With the powerful spheres now scattered across the universe, King Kai delivers an urgent warning: if they are not recovered within one year, Earth will be destroyed.
As Bulma and the others build a spaceship to retrieve the Black Star Dragon Balls, young Pan feels left out and dismissed. When launch day arrives, she stows away on board and blasts off into space with Goku and Trunks, accidentally leaving Goten behind on Earth.
A damaged stabilizer forces the Grand Tour Spaceship to crash-land on planet Imecka, a world ruled by greed and exploitation. After being swindled at every turn, the trio loses both their Dragon Radar to a small robot and their entire ship to the Imeckian Army.
Now fugitives on Imecka, Goku, Trunks, and Pan mount a nighttime raid on Don Kee's fortress to reclaim their stolen spaceship. They succeed in escaping, but Pan's rough piloting causes additional damage, and the trio soon discovers they are at the top of Imecka's most wanted list.
Fed up with Don Kee's oppression of Imecka's citizens, Goku, Trunks, and Pan surrender to the police on purpose so they can confront the tyrant directly. After Trunks falls to Don Kee's bodyguard Ledgic, Goku taps into Super Saiyan power for the first time in GT to settle the fight.
On the oversized planet Monmaasu, the team tracks their first Black Star Dragon Ball only to watch it get swallowed by a giant along with an apple. Goku must venture inside the giant's mouth and blast the ball free from a rotten tooth using a Kamehameha.
On planet Gelbo, a terrifying monster named Zoonama demands a bride from a helpless village. The team offers to handle the problem in exchange for a Black Star Dragon Ball embedded in a villager's hair, but the plan requires Trunks to dress up as the monster's bride.
Deep inside Zoonama's volcanic lair, Trunks maintains his bridal disguise long enough for the team to drug the monster and cut one of his whiskers. When a real volcanic eruption threatens everyone's lives, Goku destroys the volcano itself with a Kamehameha, but a mysterious stranger steals the Dragon Ball.
Goku, Trunks, and Pan chase the Para Brothers across space to recover their stolen Dragon Ball, only to be lured into a maze of caves on the rocky planet Beehay. The brothers deliver the sphere to Cardinal Mutchy Mutchy on Planet Luud and are sent back to steal a second one.
Trapped on Beehay with giant worms and the scheming Para Brothers, Goku and the team survive both threats only for the Para Brothers to unleash their secret weapon: the Para Para Boogie, a hypnotic dance that leaves the Saiyans helpless. Pan is accidentally launched toward Planet Luud alone.
Pan arrives on Planet Luud alone and fights her way to the Six-Star Dragon Ball, but Cardinal Mutchy Mutchy transforms her into a doll before she can escape. Goku and Trunks arrive to face the Cardinal, destroying him only to discover that his whip conceals an even deadlier true form.
Mutchy reveals his true form and proves himself a formidable foe, forcing Goku to go Super Saiyan. While the Saiyans battle, Dolltaki manipulates the Luud cult into sacrificing themselves to awaken the colossal Machine Mutant Lord Luud.
Goku and Trunks face the awakened Lord Luud, a colossal Machine Mutant with raw power but poor technique. Behind the scenes, the mysterious Dr. Myuu is revealed as the true mastermind, and he orders Dolltaki to sacrifice Pan to bring Luud to full operating capacity.
With Pan trapped inside Lord Luud alongside Dolltaki and the Para Brothers, the key to defeating the giant lies in a perfectly synchronized attack from both inside and outside. Goku and Pan must strike Luud's core cell at the exact same moment to bring the Machine Mutant down.
On the scorching desert planet Rudeeze, Pan storms off alone after feeling unwanted by the team. Nearly dying of dehydration, she is saved by Giru, who also recovers the Five-Star Dragon Ball. Meanwhile, Dolltaki returns to Planet M-2 where General Rilldo executes him for his failures.
When the Grand Tour Spaceship passes near Planet M-2, Giru's homeworld, the team decides to make a stop. It quickly becomes clear that Giru has been working for General Rilldo all along, luring the Saiyans and their Dragon Balls into a trap. The Sigma Force captures Goku and Trunks, leaving Pan alone and betrayed.
With Goku and Trunks imprisoned in capsule chambers on Planet M-2, Pan disguises herself as a robot to infiltrate the machine base. She discovers a group of defective robots with genuine emotions, then destroys the Sigma Force member Natt using a technique the machines had never seen before.
Goku wakes up and challenges the three remaining Sigma Force members to battle. Despite having all his combat data downloaded, the machines cannot keep up when Goku stops holding back. He destroys the combined Super Mega Cannon Sigma with a Kamehameha, but General Rilldo's massive power is already heading for Trunks and Pan.
General Rilldo arrives at the Grand Tour Spaceship and proves nearly indestructible. Pan lands a surprise blow that does nothing, and Rilldo retaliates by turning Trunks into solid metal with his Metal Breath. Goku goes Super Saiyan while Rilldo absorbs the Sigma Force to become the terrifying Hyper-Meta Rilldo.
Hyper-Meta Rilldo reveals his most terrifying ability: he can control every piece of metal on Planet M-2 as a weapon. Goku fights at full Super Saiyan power but finds himself trapped by metallic trees, buildings, and terrain that bend to Rilldo's will. Meanwhile, Pan repeatedly infiltrates a fortress to confront the traitorous Giru.
General Rilldo traps both Goku and Pan in metal plates and delivers them to Dr. Myuu's laboratory. Giru reveals his loyalty by freeing the Saiyans, and Trunks exposes a deeper deception, leading the group to uncover Dr. Myuu's ultimate secret creation.
The Saiyans force Dr. Myuu to reveal Baby, his ultimate creation. Trunks sabotages Baby's life support, but the parasite proves far too powerful to be contained. After seemingly destroying Baby, the creature secretly survives by hiding inside Dr. Myuu before killing him.
After destroying General Rilldo, the crew picks up a Dragon Ball signal from a derelict starship drifting toward a sun. They board the vessel, recover the One-Star Ball, and rescue a mysterious green boy before escaping. On Planet Pital, Baby secretly reveals himself inside the boy.
On Planet Pital, Baby hides inside the green boy and plots to divide and conquer the Saiyans. He possesses the hospital doctor and lures Trunks into a trap, briefly infiltrating his body before being expelled. Baby escapes into a crowd and hijacks a spaceship bound for Earth.
While Goku's crew recovers a Dragon Ball on Planet Tigere, Baby arrives on Earth. Vegeta shaves his mustache at Bulla's insistence, and Goten goes on a date with Valese in Satan City. When Baby-possessed humans attack, Goten fights them off, leading to a direct confrontation with the parasite.
Baby possesses Goten after their battle in Satan City, then heads to Capsule Corporation hunting for Vegeta. He provokes Gohan into going Super Saiyan and jumps bodies again. Piccolo arrives to help but is blasted by Baby Gohan, who now sets his sights on the Saiyan prince.
Baby Gohan confronts Vegeta on the road while Bulla is shopping. The Tuffle parasite reveals his origin and his vendetta against the Saiyan bloodline. Vegeta overpowers Gohan in combat, but Goten arrives as backup and creates the opening Baby needs to invade Vegeta's body permanently.
Goku, Pan, and Trunks return to Earth with the Black Star Dragon Balls, unaware that Baby has infected nearly everyone on the planet. Mr. Satan and Majin Buu are the only free allies remaining. When Baby Vegeta finally reveals himself, Goku must face the horrifying reality that his entire family has been turned against him.
Goku faces Baby Vegeta alone after sending Majin Buu away with Pan and Mr. Satan. He ascends to Super Saiyan 3 but discovers his child body cannot sustain the form. Baby absorbs power from the infected Saiyans and the negative energy of all humanity, evolving into Super Baby Vegeta 2 and unleashing the Revenge Death Ball.
Goku awakens in a mysterious dimension where he must win a board game against Sugoro or die. Meanwhile, Baby Vegeta uses the Black Star Dragon Balls to wish a new Planet Plant into existence. Pan watches helplessly as the Tuffles begin migrating to their new world.
Goku exposes Sugoro's cheating and escapes the collapsing Sugoroku Space with help from Kibito Kai. At the Sacred World of the Kai, he learns Baby has migrated everyone to a new Tuffle Planet. On Planet Plant, Pan and Mr. Satan infiltrate the population inside Majin Buu, and Uub arrives to confront Baby.
Uub battles Baby Vegeta on Planet Plant and initially gains the upper hand. On the Sacred World of the Kai, Old Kai begins pulling out Goku's regrowing tail. When Baby overwhelms Uub with the Revenge Death Ball, Majin Buu absorbs the attack and merges with Uub to create Majuub.
Majuub fights Baby Vegeta and turns bystanders into chocolate to clear the battlefield. On the Sacred World of the Kai, Goku finally gets his tail pulled out. He arrives on Planet Plant just in time to witness Baby turning Majuub into chocolate and eating him. Goku transforms into a Golden Great Ape.
Goku's Golden Great Ape form overpowers Baby Vegeta but rampages out of control. Old Kai reveals that if Goku can regain his humanity, he will achieve Super Saiyan 4. Pan reaches her grandfather through memories and a treasured family photo, triggering his final transformation.
Goku completes his transformation into Super Saiyan 4, returning to adult form with power that dwarfs Baby Vegeta. He dominates the Tuffle parasite in combat until Bulma activates a Blutz Wave Generator, forcing Baby Vegeta to transform into a Golden Great Ape of his own.
Golden Great Ape Baby Vegeta goes on a rampage, pretending to lose control before revealing it was all a sadistic act. Super Saiyan 4 Goku protects the Tuffle civilians and blocks a Super Galick Gun aimed at Earth. Goku's 10x Kamehameha fails to scratch Baby, who retaliates with a direct hit.
A delayed 10x Kamehameha knocks down Golden Great Ape Baby Vegeta, evening the battlefield. Kibito Kai retrieves the Sacred Water from Kami's Lookout and uses it to free Dende, Mr. Popo, and Trunks from Baby's control. Bulma recharges Baby with the Blutz Wave Generator while Goku bluffs about his remaining strength.
With Goku critically weakened, Pan, Trunks, Gohan, and Goten rally to pour their Saiyan energy into him. Majuub fights Baby from the inside to buy time. Fully recharged, Goku achieves Super Full Power Saiyan 4 and prepares for the decisive clash with Golden Great Ape Baby Vegeta.
Super Full Power Saiyan 4 Goku absorbs Baby's ultimate Revenge Death Ball Final and channels its energy into a devastating 10x Kamehameha. He removes Baby's tail to force the parasite out of Vegeta, then blasts Baby into the sun. The Sacred Water frees Earth's population, but the Black Star Dragon Balls have restarted the planet's destruction countdown.
With Earth set to explode in two weeks, Vegeta organizes an evacuation to Planet Plant. Piccolo stays behind on purpose, sacrificing himself so that his death will permanently destroy the Black Star Dragon Balls. After Earth explodes, Grand Elder Moori uses the Namekian Dragon Balls to restore it.
The 30th World Martial Arts Tournament kicks off with Goku stuck in the junior division thanks to Mr. Satan's height rule scheme. Pan forfeits to avoid following in Satan's footsteps, Vegeta crashes the event seeking a real fight, and Majuub throws his championship match to let the beloved champion keep his belt.
A rift tears open between Earth and Hell, unleashing waves of defeated villains back into the living world. Dr. Gero and Dr. Myuu reveal their alliance and their creation, Hell Fighter 17, while luring Goku into a trap that leaves him stranded in the underworld facing Frieza and Cell.
Goku squares off against Frieza and Cell in the depths of Hell, turning their own techniques against them with style. On the surface, the Z Fighters battle escaped villains across multiple fronts, while Hell Fighter 17 begins calling out to Android 17 to complete their merger.
Krillin falls at the hands of Android 17, while Goku breaks free from his icy prison in Hell and freezes Cell and Frieza in return. The two Android 17s merge into Super 17, an unstoppable force that overwhelms every Z Fighter on Earth. Piccolo hatches a bold plan to reach Hell and help Goku escape.
Piccolo and Dende attempt to link their energy across dimensions to open a gateway out of Hell for Goku. On Earth, Super 17 continues to dominate every Z Fighter who challenges him, until Pan captures Dr. Gero and forces a standoff that exposes the fractures in the villains' alliance.
Goku battles Super 17 as a Super Saiyan but discovers that the android absorbs every energy attack thrown at him, growing stronger with each blast. Forced to escalate, Goku ascends to Super Saiyan 4, determined to find a weakness in an enemy that feeds on his own power.
Goku turns himself into a living bomb to stop Super 17, but the android survives. Android 18 arrives to avenge Krillin, and her relentless assault reveals Super 17's fatal weakness: he cannot defend while absorbing energy. Goku exploits the opening with a Dragon Fist that ends the Super 17 Saga.
The cracked Dragon Balls produce Black Smoke Shenron instead of the familiar dragon. He swallows all seven balls and disperses seven Shadow Dragons across the Earth. Old Kai reveals that decades of overusing the Dragon Balls created a critical mass of negative energy, and Goku sets out with Pan and Giru to hunt them down.
Goku and Pan face Haze Shenron, the Two-Star Dragon, whose pollution-based powers drain their strength the longer they fight near his toxic lake. After being thrown into the poisoned water, they discover a pure underground spring that restores them and fire a combined Kamehameha to obliterate the weakest Shadow Dragon.
Goku and Pan find Rage Shenron, the Five-Star Dragon, in an abandoned city. Tiny but dangerous, this dragon commands electrified slime that can absorb and redirect even a Super Saiyan 4's Kamehameha. A timely rainstorm short-circuits his slime body, giving Goku the opening to destroy him.
Oceanus Shenron, the Six-Star Dragon, rules a fishing village disguised as the benevolent Princess Otto. Her mastery over wind and water proves formidable until Goku cracks the secret of her spinning technique. A brave seagull and Pan's first solo Kamehameha expose the dragon's true form, letting Goku finish her off.
Naturon Shenron, the Seven-Star Dragon, appears as a tone-deaf mole obsessed with earthquakes. After Goku and Pan defeat his borrowed body, the cunning dragon reveals his true ability: possession. He absorbs Pan through his Dragon Ball, transforming into a far more powerful creature with plans to eventually take over a Super Saiyan 4.
With Pan trapped inside Naturon Shenron, Goku must choose between destroying the dragon and killing his granddaughter. He transforms into Super Saiyan 4 and fires a held-back 10x Kamehameha, then pretends to give up. When the overconfident dragon partially releases Pan to taunt him, Goku seizes the moment and pulls her free.
With four Dragon Balls recovered, Goku and Pan face Nuova Shenron, the Four-Star Dragon of Fire. His body reaches temperatures hotter than the sun, making physical attacks dangerous. When Pan is knocked out, Nuova spares her life, hinting at an honor code unlike any previous Shadow Dragon. Meanwhile, a second dragon lurks in the shadows.
Vegeta reflects on a lifetime of being second to Goku, reviewing every battle where he thought he had surpassed his rival only to fall behind again. With Bulma's help, he discovers a path to Super Saiyan 4, setting the stage for the Saiyan Prince's final transformation.
Super Saiyan 4 Goku and Nuova Shenron push each other to the limit in a high-speed battle of fire and ki. When Goku finally gains the upper hand and spares Nuova's life, Eis Shenron, the Three-Star Dragon, arrives to blindside both of them. The ice dragon freezes Goku limb by limb, but Nuova refuses to finish him off.
Goku defeats the cowardly Eis Shenron after being blinded by ice claws, relying on his remaining senses to deliver a fatal Dragon Fist. Nuova Shenron offers Goku an antidote, but the honorable fire dragon is killed from behind by Syn Shenron, the One-Star Dragon and the most powerful Shadow Dragon of all.
The Z Fighters rally around a battered Goku and channel their Saiyan energy into him, pushing him beyond Super Saiyan 4 into a new state: Super Full Power Saiyan 4. Even blinded, Goku dominates Syn Shenron until the desperate dragon devours all seven Dragon Balls and transforms into the terrifying Omega Shenron.
Omega Shenron wields the abilities of all seven Shadow Dragons and pushes Goku to the brink of self-destruction. Vegeta arrives with Bulma's Blutz Wave Generator, transforms through Great Ape and Golden Great Ape into Super Saiyan 4, and proposes fusion as the only way to overcome the ultimate dragon.
Goku and Vegeta perform the Fusion Dance as Super Saiyan 4s, creating the overwhelmingly powerful Gogeta. He toys with Omega Shenron, purges the Earth's negative energy, and nearly destroys the dragon with his Big Bang Kamehameha. But the fusion ends far sooner than expected, leaving the fight unfinished.
Goku swallows the Four-Star Dragon Ball to keep Omega Shenron from reclaiming it, nearly choking in the process. The two Saiyans attempt the Fusion Dance multiple times, but Omega keeps interrupting. When Goku finally loses all his energy and reverts to child form, the Dragon Ball reappears on his forehead.
Nuova Shenron re-emerges from the Dragon Ball on Goku's forehead, carrying positive energy from within the Saiyan. He and Goku team up against Omega Shenron, and Nuova traps the ultimate dragon in a fireball meant to destroy them both. But Omega turns the tables from the inside, absorbing Nuova and reclaiming all seven Dragon Balls.
Omega Shenron launches a Negative Karma Ball to destroy Earth, and Goku holds it back with his bare hands, vowing to never use the Dragon Balls again. After surviving the explosion, Goku channels energy from every living being in the universe into a Super Ultra Spirit Bomb that obliterates Omega Shenron. The original Shenron appears unbidden.
Shenron appears unbidden, heals Goku, and grants one final wish to revive everyone killed by Super 17 and the Shadow Dragons. Goku climbs onto Shenron's back for one last journey, visiting Krillin, Piccolo, and old friends before the Dragon Balls merge with his body and he vanishes. A century later, his legacy lives on.
