One Down...

Manga ChapterCh. 214

The Saibamen battles continue with deadly consequences. Vegeta executes his own defeated Saibaman for its weakness, and Yamcha volunteers to fight next so that Krillin, who has already been revived by the Dragon Balls once, can be spared. Yamcha appears to win easily, but his victory is ripped away in a horrifying instant.

Vegeta's Ruthless Standard

The beaten Saibaman can barely move as Tien walks back to his allies. Nappa reveals that the Saibamen possess battle powers of 1,200, meaning Tien must have surpassed that level. Nappa struggles to accept this, but the conversation is interrupted when the downed Saibaman starts to rise. Before it can attack, Vegeta destroys it himself. When Nappa asks why, Vegeta explains the creature had no chance of winning and it was the first Saibaman anyway. He orders the remaining five to hold nothing back. The Z Fighters exchange uneasy glances, realizing how casually the Saiyans discard their own soldiers.

Yamcha Steps Forward

Krillin moves to fight next, but Yamcha insists on taking his place. His reasoning is stark: Krillin has already been wished back by the Dragon Balls once and cannot be revived a second time. Yamcha has no such limitation. The next Saibaman is sent out and the two clash, vanishing from sight. Gohan cannot follow their movements at all, and Piccolo shouts at him to track their ki instead of relying on his eyes.

Yamcha and the Saibaman trade punches until the creature retreats to a nearby rock formation. It dives at Yamcha from above, but Yamcha flies over it and fires a Kamehameha straight down. The blast scores a direct hit, slamming the Saibaman into the ground. Yamcha lands and stands over the motionless body, declaring these things are not very tough and offering to handle all four remaining ones himself.

A Sudden Death

Without warning, the Saibaman springs back to life, latches onto Yamcha's body, and self-destructs in a blinding explosion. Krillin rushes to his side and confirms the worst: Yamcha is dead. Krillin thinks of how Yamcha volunteered precisely to protect him, and his thoughts turn to Puar and Bulma, the people Yamcha left behind. Overwhelmed by grief and fury, Krillin screams for his allies to clear the area, charges up both hands, and fires a massive blast directly at Vegeta and Nappa.
