Omori declares the antenna beyond repair, and the group settles into an evening marked by a hilariously bad police sketch of Jaco on television. Tights reveals a shocking secret: she has been hired as a body double for idol An Azuki on the dangerous Twinkle 8 rocket launch. Government agent Katayude recognizes the sketch and mobilizes an armed team.
Omori studies the antenna thoroughly but concludes the interstellar communication mechanism is beyond his comprehension. He tells Jaco to give up on it, a verdict that deeply frustrates the patrolman. Over a dinner of burned rice and instant ramen, the three watch television as the news unveils a police sketch of the "Mask Man." The rendering bears only a vague resemblance to Jaco, and he reacts with absolute horror at how terrible it looks.
Elsewhere, government agent Katayude watches the same broadcast from his apartment. He recognizes the figure in the sketch as the strange being he spotted on Omori's island and resolves to investigate the following morning with an armed team.
Tights asks Omori how long it takes to reach Kiwi Island by motorboat. Omori guesses she wants to watch the rocket launch, but Tights corrects him: she will be inside the rocket. She has been hired as An Azuki's body double, riding the Twinkle 8 in place of the valuable idol. If the launch fails, the agency plans to fabricate a miracle survival story for publicity. Jaco and Omori try to dissuade her, but Tights has already spent their money on Sky Gold and cannot back out. Moved by her selflessness, Jaco promises not to use the Extinction Bomb against humanity.
When morning arrives, Tights takes the boat to Kiwi Island while Omori makes one last futile attempt at the antenna. As radio coverage of the launch preparations plays in the background, Jaco suddenly spots a boat approaching with Katayude and four armed members of the Government Police Special Squad. He warns Omori, who tells him to hide immediately.
