Dragon Ball Super

Yukihiro Kitano served as animation supervisor for seventeen episodes of Dragon Ball Super spanning from the God of Destruction Beerus Saga through the early Universe Survival Saga before transitioning to key animator status following episode 97. His earliest work came in the Beerus Saga with episodes 1, 7, and 13, establishing the visual foundation for Goku's encounter with divine power. In the Golden Frieza Saga, he supervised episodes 19 and 24, capturing Frieza's overwhelming return and the shocking resurrection of Captain Ginyu. His Universe 6 Saga contributions included episodes 29, 33, and 39. The Copy-Vegeta Saga saw his work on episode 45, showcasing the appearance of the duplicate Saiyan. His Future Trunks Saga episodes (51, 57, 62, 67, and 74) spanned from Trunks and Mai's reunion through the Great Saiyaman's farewell. Universe Survival Saga episodes 78, 82, 87, and 97 rounded out his supervisory tenure.

Background and Challenges

Kitano's earlier work on Disk Wars: Avengers, which used Tadayoshi Yamamuro's character designs, prepared him for Dragon Ball Super's similar design foundation. Despite his familiarity with Yamamuro's style, critics noted that Kitano's episodes occasionally struggled with design consistency and overall aesthetic polish. Following his demotion to key animator status, he continued contributing to the series, though in a reduced capacity. His early supervisor role coincided with Super's earliest production phase, a period marked by significant animation challenges across the staff.
