Chapter 3.1 (Team-Up Missions)

A hardline faction of the Octo-Lover's Brigade tips into villainy and riots through Osaka. As bystanders scatter ahead of the arriving heroes, a small girl named Hime trips, and a rioter moves on her before someone unseen steps in and shields her. She falls for her rescuer on the spot.

The next morning Tenya and Momo report to the Fat Gum Agency under the Team-Up Missions program, meeting Fat Gum and his sidekick Tamaki. Asked whether these are his U.A. juniors, Tamaki confirms it and, true to form, insists both are far more impressive than he is. Introductions and Quirk rundowns done, Tenya proposes naming a leader for the students, and Fat Gum picks Tamaki as the senior with agency experience. The other two are thrilled. Tamaki starts to sweat. Fat Gum then mentions a search request, and Hime herself walks in, mistaken at first for a lost child. She wants the hero from the riot found, and when Tamaki notes the difficulty of searching alone, she points out that heroes have the connections she lacks. Her pestering rattles him, and she diagnoses him bluntly: scary-looking and a total wimp. The remark does real damage.

Asked for a name or distinguishing feature, Hime offers nothing usable beyond calling him a prince, though she swears she will know him instantly. Tamaki suggests canvassing every agency that responded to the riot. At Naniwa Hero Office they find Shoto, who handled the disturbance; Hime rejects him, then rejects his partner Minoru just as fast, leaving Minoru wounded. Hours of agencies and heroes produce nothing. During a break, Momo creates a chair, Hime thanks her and then needles Tamaki for the lack of progress, and Tenya defends him as one of U.A.'s finest. Tamaki stays gloomy and insists his juniors outclass him, which prompts Hime to call his spirit weak, an assessment Fat Gum cannot honestly dispute. His attempt at a compliment gets cut off by Tenya hurrying them along. At the next office, Neito, Katsuki, and Denki are teamed together, useful by all accounts despite Neito and Katsuki being a catastrophic personality match. Hime dismisses all three, but notices they share something with her hero, and Denki's guess that the only common trait is blond hair unlocks her memory. It is a real lead until Tamaki reports they have already exhausted every agency and every responder. Hime deflates but refuses to admit a mistake. Tamaki, having worked something out, moves to comfort her, and a rioter jumps him from behind.

He dodges, sets Hime down safely, and more of the Brigade emerge, recognizing the heroes who obstructed them. Tamaki directs Tenya to evacuate the area and asks Momo for ink protection; she produces blankets for him and Hime. Fat Gum's job is to soak up everything thrown. Watching him fight, Hime cannot square the skill with the gloom, and Momo explains that the negativity is the engine: Tamaki reads other people's strengths fast, plans for the worst, and trains harder than anyone regardless of how strong he becomes. Absorbing hit after hit, Fat Gum builds his charge while Tamaki turns his fingers into tentacles, hauls the villains up, and throws them skyward for a single released punch that drops the lot. Burning off his defense-fat leaves him slim, and Hime tackles him in delight, because there is her prince. Tamaki had suspected as much, though Fat Gum himself is astonished, and even Tenya and Momo end up asking who this man is. Back at the agency Fat Gum eats furiously to rebuild his bulk while Hime asks him not to, preferring the current version. Tamaki wonders whether he actually teamed up with anyone; everyone assures him he did well, and Hime admits she would have quit without him, before adding that he would be cool if he stopped acting like a wimp. He apologizes for it, and comes away a fraction more confident.

Tenya Ida and Momo Yaoyorozu join the Fat Gum Agency for a Team-Up Mission, with Tamaki Amajiki named student leader. Hime hires them to find the hero who protected her during the Octo-Lover's Brigade riot, offering only a vague description. The search covers every responding agency, turning up Shoto, Minoru, Neito, Katsuki, and Denki, and yields one clue: her hero was blond. Rioters ambush the group, and Tamaki coordinates the response while Fat Gum absorbs their attacks and unloads everything in one punch. Burning off his defense-fat reveals him as Hime's rescuer, and the ordeal leaves Tamaki slightly more sure of himself.

Yoco Akiyama wrote and drew this 35-page bonus, which appeared as a Weekly Shonen Jump one-shot tied to My Hero Academia: Team-Up Missions. VIZ Media's online service files it as Chapter 3.1, while Japan's Shonen Jump+ labels it One-Shot 2. It introduces the Octo-Lover's Brigade and Hime, and is collected in the series' first volume.
