Freeze is the thirtieth chapter of Tokyo Ghoul:re. Hinami fights to shield Sasaki as he awakens, Juuzou Suzuya bids a bittersweet farewell to Big Madam, and Sasaki steps forward to face Takizawa himself.
As the CCG surges forward, Naki, Ayato, and Miza scramble to hold the line while reinforcements pour up from below. In the Grand Hall, Hinami plants herself between the wounded Sasaki and Takizawa, insisting the young man still has value to Aogiri and urging her ally to fall back. Their clash erupts anyway, and while fighting she recalls warm memories of studying kanji beside the man she knew as Ken Kaneki. Resolved to shield him, she severs Takizawa's arm, though he simply heals and begins shaping his kakuja.
Deep in the warehouse, the Suzuya Squad corners Big Madam. Hanbee and Juuzou carve away her kagune until she collapses, pleading for mercy. Memories surface of Juuzou's childhood as Rei on her lap, and though he admits she left him nothing but scars, he calmly says he holds no grudge and acts only as an investigator. His squad cuts her down before she can finish a cruel final taunt, and Juuzou quietly bids his father goodbye.
Battered and shredded, Hinami still wants to protect Sasaki, but the newly awakened investigator steps past her, acknowledging Kaneki's body while insisting he is now Haise Sasaki. A sobbing Saiko begs him not to go, yet he smiles and advances on Takizawa. Watching him, Hinami concludes that even without his memories he remains her big brother, Ken Kaneki.
Hinami defends Sasaki and wounds Takizawa, who forms his kakuja. The Suzuya Squad slays Big Madam as Juuzou reconciles his painful past with her. Sasaki awakens with healed eyes and, despite Hinami and Saiko's pleas, chooses to confront Takizawa himself.
In Tokyo Ghoul:re Chapter 30, Hinami Fueguchi shields the wounded Haise Sasaki from Seidou Takizawa, the Suzuya Squad kills Big Madam, and Sasaki awakens with healed eyes to confront Takizawa himself.
