Cut off from his allies, Megumi is forced into a fight he cannot win against an opponent who is secretly his own father. As the reanimated Toji closes in for the kill, a buried memory surfaces and gives him one last chance to do right.
Separated from the others, Megumi must survive against a foe far beyond him, unaware the attacker is his father. Acting purely on instinct, Toji presses the boy toward death, but a memory from the past restores a flicker of his humanity and lets him make amends in the only way left to him.
Thanks to Inumaki clearing out the civilians and transfigured humans, the streets are nearly empty, letting Megumi focus on Toji. He triggers Rabbit Escape just as both fighters feel Sukuna's presence flare in Shibuya, then uses the rabbit swarm and a summoned Toad to open distance, wondering why he sensed the King of Curses. Toji charges in and nearly skewers him with the sharpened Playful Cloud, but Megumi dives clear. Running low on cursed energy, his one real edge is that Shoko is stationed at a tollgate tent on the Metropolitan Expressway, guarded by Yaga and his cursed corpses. Shoko offers to join the fight; Yaga refuses, stressing she is too vital and that the enemy would rush her position if they knew she was present. The station saved Ijichi and Ino, set up before Nanami even called. Smoking, Shoko brushes off Yaga's surprise by saying she is simply feeling nostalgic for her student days.
Toji chases Megumi down an alley, where Toad's tongue yanks the boy clear at the last second. Realizing his shikigami are no match, Megumi decides to spend his own body instead, keeping any wound to something Shoko can mend quickly. He times Toji's blitz, and the attacker's foot sinks into his shadow, skewing the strike into a mere flesh wound and letting Megumi grab him. He pulls a sword from his shadow to stab during the grapple, but Toji vanishes even at point-blank range. With Megumi out of options, Toji recalls agreeing long ago to meet Naobito and sell Megumi to the Zenin Clan, believing the boy had potential there. Breaking his silence at last, Toji asks Megumi his name; the boy answers Fushiguro. Relieved his son never went to the Zenin, Toji drives Playful Cloud into his own head, killing the vessel to spare Megumi from his mindless rampage, and collapses.
This Shibuya Incident arc chapter stages the clash between Megumi and Toji Fushiguro, set outside Shibuya Station and along the Metropolitan Expressway. Featured abilities include Megumi's Rabbit Escape and Toad summons and Shoko's mentioned Reverse Cursed Technique, with the cursed tool Playful Cloud in play. The events were adapted in Episode 40 of the anime.
