Summary

A flashback shows Aoi as a grade-schooler thrashing a rude high schooler yet finding no satisfaction in it. A woman trailed by a curse watches from nearby, praises the boy, and casually asks what sort of girls he likes. Despite his dull existence, Aoi always sensed his boredom would not last. In the present he announces he is about to release his cursed technique, asks Yuji to trust him and fight at full force, and in a single second runs through every one of Hanami's attacks before concluding that, with Yuji's help, the result will be victory.

Key Events

The duo launches their offensive, but a root snares Aoi's foot and flings him toward a spike. At the last instant he uses Boogie Woogie to swap positions with Hanami, who is impaled on his own spiked roots and recognizes the technique as simple yet maddening. Aoi explains that the ability trades the places of two targets and is triggered by a clap, then urges Yuji to finish things before Hanami adapts. By repeatedly switching with Yuji, Aoi scrambles the spirit's read on the battle, letting them hammer Hanami so relentlessly that he cannot disengage.

Notes

With Hanami exposed, Yuji winds up another Black Flash. The chapter cites Nanami's view that the technique is less about brilliance than entering a flow state, like an athlete's zone, where jujutsu thinking becomes as automatic as breathing, allowing repeated use; Nanami's record was four in a row. Yuji lands three consecutive Black Flashes, and as Hanami braces for the fourth and anticipates a switch, Aoi claps without actually activating his technique, leaving Yuji free to connect the fourth strike. The chapter introduces Yuki Tsukumo in flashback, belongs to the Kyoto Goodwill Event Arc, and adapts into Episode 20.
