Summary

Gojo gathers every student to weigh whether the event should go on. With lives lost, Yuji and others waver, until Aoi speaks up in favor of continuing and wins everyone over with a string of sound arguments. Gojo then scraps the individual portion and has Yuji blindly draw a replacement team contest, which turns out to be baseball, to the dismay of both principals hoping to preserve tradition. The game opens with Miwa at bat while Utahime and Momo bicker over the rules, and when Kamo comes up he asks the catcher, Yuji, why he chose to become a sorcerer.

Key Events

Yuji answers that he wants to help others and to avoid dying alone, a reasoning Noritoshi respects since he became a sorcerer for his mother's sake; impressed, Noritoshi declines to swing and is struck out by Maki. After the sides switch, Nobara bats against Mechamaru's pitching machine, confronts Mai at first base, and manages a hit. Megumi bunts himself out so Nobara can advance, and Panda and Maki follow up to seemingly score three runs, though Momo catching Maki's ball with her broom draws cries of cheating. Aoi then steps up demanding to face Yuji on the mound, and an irritated Maki beans him in the face, earning near-universal congratulations and showing Yuji how disliked Aoi truly is.

Notes

While play continues, the principals discuss Yuji. Gakuganji admits he bears the boy no hatred but cannot condone his existence under the rules, while Yaga argues Yuji could save far more lives than Sukuna might take. Reflecting on his own regret over his former student Suguru Geto, Yaga concludes the adults must support the students for now and set their own regrets aside. Yuji caps the game with a home run that brings Toge home, and the 30th Annual Kyoto Goodwill Event ends with Tokyo High victorious. The chapter belongs to the Kyoto Goodwill Event Arc and adapts into Episode 21.
