The sixty-first chapter sees Nobara's reckless game of chicken pin down the Death Paintings long enough for both she and Yuji to detonate Black Flash, turning the tide of the fight.
With a nail buried in her own arm, Nobara taunts the brothers despite her bleeding and presses them to switch off their Rot Technique, certain they hate pain as much as she can dish it out. Eso worries about facing a counter ability like this but convinces himself she will crack first in a drawn-out contest. The strength of her Straw Doll Technique: Resonance, which channels cursed energy to damage a chosen body part, depends on how tightly the caster is linked to the target. Thanks to the Decay marks now staining her skin, Nobara shares a deep connection with both siblings, which sharpens the technique's bite far beyond what Eso expects.
Eso assumes the poison and pain of Decay will keep the sorcerers frozen, but Yuji's immunity, a gift of Sukuna, lets him ignore the rot entirely as he loads his fist with cursed energy. A fresh wave of Resonance locks the curses in place, freeing Yuji to batter Kechizu with relentless blows. When Eso cries out for his brother, Nobara fires Resonance again to keep him from intervening. The pair then trade positions and targets, forcing Eso to weigh shutting off the technique before Nobara can finish Kechizu. Spotting his younger brother in dire shape, he instinctively kills Decay and switches to Maximum: Wing King, aiming to strike Nobara from behind.
The lingering ache from decomposition only tightens Nobara's focus, and Yuji plants himself in front of Eso before the wings can reach her. Unknown to Eso, Yuji is the point where cursed energy gathers and the one anointed by the sparks of black. Both sorcerers unleash Black Flash at the same moment, savaging the brothers, leaving Kechizu broken and tearing Eso's left arm clean off. Bewildered that his jujutsu protection failed, Eso begs Kechizu to hang on, but the younger sibling lunges at Nobara and is exorcised when she activates Straw Doll Technique: Hairpin, detonating the nail in his face as a spear of cursed energy bursts through his head. She coldly tells him Eso will be joining him soon. The chapter corresponds to the anime's twenty-fourth episode.
