Key Events

Alone before Sukuna, Megumi tells himself that the lone fairness in existence is how unfairly it treats every person equally. He maintains that Yuji is bound to return regardless, while Sukuna points out that the boy had been sinking into his own doubts just before Megumi fired the signal. Deciding his sole option is to wear Sukuna down until the curse must put the heart back, Megumi gambles his life on it and battles beside his shikigami, yet finds himself wholly overpowered by Sukuna's speed and might.

Sukuna asks why Megumi refused to leave Yuji behind when he could have. Megumi remembers Tsumiki, a girl handed an unfair life, and resolves that to deliver fairness to more good people he will save them unfairly, because he is no hero but a jujutsu sorcerer. Forgoing his ultimate ability, he simply confesses he never regretted rescuing Yuji. The confession lets Yuji seize back his own body, and before he drops dead he urges Megumi to go on and live a full, long life.
