Chapter 398

A device fires out of Hercules, All Might drives it into All For One, and the Superacid Injection: Pinky goes to work. The villain screams as he dissolves even while rewinding the damage, and All Might laughs at the man who called him trash.

Years earlier, a young Toshinori Yagi begs Nana Shimura for an apprenticeship. She refuses, since he has no Quirk, and tells him to take the pipe elsewhere. His family was killed, he says. So was hers, she answers, and she has no time for revenge. What he cannot accept is a world that rewards whoever takes the most, where the grief of the robbed curdles into hatred and spirals without end. Asked for his solution, he says he wants everyone to be able to smile, and that calls for a Symbol of Peace. Gesturing at the wreckage, he notes that buildings go up and repairs get made, but fear has settled in and darkened people's hearts and minds. Nana asks whether he means a grand display of power. Everyone is carrying their own troubles, he replies, so he will step forward, since a Quirkless man has no other part to play.

In the present the fight reaches Tatooin Station and All Might is thrown through buildings onto a rooftop. Counter-Force notes that All For One has closed on U.A. but drifted off course, consumed by the chase. The suit lists fractured ribs, a full body contusion and failing respiration. All Might recognizes the roof where he met Izuku, and his own words to the boy return alongside Stain's. He forces himself upright as All For One descends again, and he sees that the villain has grown younger without appearing to notice, which means he must not be allowed to notice. Purging the Pinky acid cost him Quirks and strain, and the damage is accelerating the rewind.

All Might starts to laugh, louder and louder, feeding the rage, and calls for the rest of the suit. The Uravity and Ingenium Thrusters open to Full Throttle as he declares that serving others is pure joy, and says that together they take the win. Elsewhere, as Deku and Tomura tear at each other, All Might's vestige inside One For All picks up the fight happening nearby.

The chapter fills in how he first met Nana Shimura, arguing his way into her tutelage on the strength of the Symbol of Peace idea.

His family is revealed to have been killed sometime in his youth.

Superacid Injection: Pinky forces All For One to burn Quirks and speeds up his rewinding.

The remaining suit components deploy, among them the Ingenium and Uravity Thrusters.

All Might's vestige inside One For All registers the fight while Deku battles Tomura.

Chapter 398 of My Hero Academia, by Kohei Horikoshi, ran August 28, 2023 in issue 39 at fifteen pages, sits in Volume 39, and is adapted in Episode 159.

Within the Final War arc it carries on the All Might and All For One finale. Horikoshi's comment apologizes for using Dark Shadow rather than Tsukuyomi for the cape guard.
