Chapter 46: Christmas Eve Hero

Koichi Haimawari and Kazuho Haneyama are on their way to a meeting at the Marukane when Captain Celebrity passes overhead carrying Makoto Tsukauchi, and offers them a lift too. They take it and arrive quickly, though the flight leaves Koichi with the beginnings of a cold. Asked why the others are unbothered by the wind, the hero explains that Flight raises an aerodynamic shell that keeps out cold, heat, and physical blows alike, and that he can stretch it over anyone he touches, a courtesy he extends to women and not to men. Koichi is unimpressed. Makoto stresses that these details stay secret, since villains who learn the Quirk's characteristics and weaknesses become dangerous.

The Marukane Performers spend Christmas together after the meeting. Makoto then tells Captain Celebrity his license is being restored and he can go home to the United States. The lawsuits, she explains, were mostly entrapment of one kind or another and otherwise frivolous. She also tells him he is about to become a father, news that blindsides him, since Pamela, his ex-wife, had never told him she was expecting, and leaves him overjoyed.

As the party breaks up, the Little Sisters of Saint Lila's Academy climb into a taxi, and a flying creature drops out of the sky and carries the car off with them inside. Captain Celebrity gives chase, but the Scarred Man, who arranged all of it, detonates the creature by remote just before he reaches them. He shields the girls with his barrier and they come through untouched, while dropping his own cover costs him a spread of cuts, none of them serious. Bystanders crowd in with cameras to record the feat and he protests that he looks his worst; Makoto tells him he has never looked better.

From atop a building the Scarred Man watches it all. The attack told him where Flight's weak point lies, and he leaves to prepare a lethal follow-up, loosing more Bombers as he goes.

Flight is detailed: an aerodynamic barrier that blocks temperature and impact and can be extended over anyone Captain Celebrity is touching.

Makoto informs Captain Celebrity that his license is reinstated and that Pamela is pregnant with his child.

The Bombers are introduced, and Number 6 identifies the flaw in Flight while setting up a plan to kill Captain Celebrity.
