Shoto reads a vague text message correctly and throws himself into a fight he has no stake in, using both halves of his Quirk. Between blocked blades and stolen blood, the rules of Bloodcurdle come apart, and the classmate on the ground gets told to look at the man he wants to become.
Shoto Todoroki explains himself briefly: he decoded the message and ran. Tenya cannot believe he is here, and Izuku cannot believe the fire is out.
The fight opens badly and stays that way. Ice misses, a stream of flame misses, but the sweep does something useful, herding Izuku and the wounded professional back toward Shoto, who tells the Hero Killer plainly that these two are not dying today. Izuku shouts the one rule that matters: do not let him take your blood. A thrown dagger opens Shoto's cheek anyway. Stain closes, gets an ice pillar in the way, and then catches Shoto staring at the katana hanging overhead. He seizes the distracted boy and leans in to lick the cut, only for a burst of fire to blow him off. More ice follows, gets dodged, and Shoto ends up hiding behind a thin wall while katana and dagger hammer at it.
Tenya pleads with him to stop, insisting the fight is his by inheritance of the Ingenium name. Shoto's answer is a rebuke: revenge has warped it, and the Ingenium he remembers never wore that expression. Great columns of ice go up to blind Stain and get carved apart. Two small blades go into Shoto's left arm and draw blood, and Stain leaps for the finish. Izuku, mobile again, meets him in the air with Full Cowl and tries to slam him down, taking an elbow instead.
Working aloud, Izuku lists why the paralysis broke: the effect might thin across multiple targets, or depend on how much blood was swallowed, or turn on blood type. Stain compliments the last guess. Shoto sets the strategy, keep out of knife range and outlast him, and Izuku takes the bait role while Shoto supports. The two of them will cover Tenya and the professional. Tenya, watching, starts to feel the shape of what he has done wrong.
The team-up fails on its first exchange. Stain opens Izuku's leg with the katana, licks the blade, and locks him down again. Izuku apologizes; Tenya begs them both to quit; Shoto tells him that stopping them requires standing up. With the ice wall carved away and Stain turning on him, Shoto tells Tenya to fix his eyes on who he wants to be. Tenya thinks of his brother and begins to fight the Quirk holding him.
Shoto enters the fight against Stain and uses his fire alongside his ice.
Izuku breaks free of Bloodcurdle and works out the mechanics behind it, with blood type confirmed as a factor.
Shoto tells Tenya that vengeance has made him unrecognizable as Ingenium's successor.
Tenya begins straining against Stain's paralysis, driven by the memory of his brother.

Shoto Todoroki and Tenya Ida are classmates at U.A. High School, and in Chapter 53, "From Todoroki to Ida," Shoto risks himself to protect Tenya and speaks to him bluntly about his quest for revenge, reflecting the bond between the two even through harsh honesty.
Chapter 53 opens with Shoto Todoroki, who decoded Izuku's vague text message, joining the fight against Hero Killer Stain to protect Tenya Ida and the injured hero Native, using both his fire and ice.
Izuku Midoriya works out that Bloodcurdle's paralysis may weaken across multiple targets, depend on how much blood Stain swallows, or hinge on blood type, and Stain confirms blood type is a factor.
Shoto Todoroki tells Tenya Ida that seeking revenge has warped him and that he no longer resembles the Ingenium that Shoto remembers, urging him to think about who he actually wants to become.
Izuku Midoriya and Shoto Todoroki agree to stay out of blade range and wear Stain down, with Izuku baiting him and Shoto supporting, though Stain still manages to cut Izuku's leg and paralyze him again.
