A New Path

In the quiet weeks after the Ghost incidents end, Boruto puzzles over why his eye no longer activates. Strolling the village, Naruto, Sai, and Shikamaru are relieved to see life back to normal, and Sai notes the part the Academy students played in stopping Sumire. Shikamaru worries that keeping her enrolled could invite trouble. Shino tells his class they will be grouped into fresh three-person teams to test their compatibility ahead of graduation, and Sarada wonders aloud about Sumire's long absence.

Mitsuki insists on pairing with Boruto again, but the two lack a third since Iwabee and Denki, and Shikadai, Chōchō, and Inojin, are already set. Sarada has agreed to join Iwabee's team, Boruto weighs asking Lee, and Mitsuki quietly hopes for Sumire, though Boruto hushes him because her role in the incidents is not public. Shino asks Iruka what awaits Sumire and vows to look after her should she come back. He later visits her and offers to arrange a place outside the village where she can sort herself out. During another flag exercise, word about Sumire reaches Shino, and with Mitsuki's help Boruto captures the flag; Sumire returns and is touched by how everyone greets her.

Naruto sends a shadow clone to meet Sasuke and hands over a scroll concerning the Gozu Tennō, which Sasuke links to Kaguya and believes will ease access to her dimension. Asked to visit the village, Sasuke instead sends an apology to Sakura and departs. Elsewhere, Toneri foresees the arrival of gods, and Kinshiki alerts Momoshiki to disturbances in Kaguya's world, prompting Momoshiki to ready his departure. This Boruto episode belongs to the Academy Entrance Arc, opens with Baton Road and closes with Sayonara Moon Town. It aired in Japan on 12 July 2017 and in English on 26 January 2019.
