A Vase

Strolling through the village at Naruto's side, Kawaki privately admits he is leaning on the Hokage merely as a shield. At home Boruto learns his father has taken the boy out to find a replacement vase. Kawaki eyes the Hokage Rock, which Naruto explains, and the two run into Sarada and Chocho buying snacks. Chocho takes an interest in Kawaki while Sarada tries a friendly snack suggestion he brushes aside. Naruto treats the girls and picks up food for himself and Kawaki, who is caught off guard by how much he enjoys his. When Naruto suggests he let Chocho try a bite of something she has never had, Kawaki flatly refuses.

A boy accidentally bumps into Kawaki, whose arm shifts to strike before Naruto stops him. Kawaki merely warns the child that danger lurks everywhere, sparking an argument with Sarada over his outburst. Naruto brings them to Yamanaka Flowers, where he quietly instructs Ino to keep the Sensing Unit on alert, then explains they need a vase. Kawaki grabs one at random, drawing Sarada's rebuke over his carelessness, until Naruto describes the value of a deliberate choice; Kawaki then selects the same vase but names a reason for it.

Ino offers to arrange flowers in it, but the stems dredge up memories of the tubes in Amado's lab and of Jigen, and Kawaki drops the vase, shattering it. His Karma flickers to life before Naruto's steadying presence makes it recede.

Sarada shares her ambition to become Hokage and tells Kawaki he can rely on her too, and Naruto rounds out the outing with a ramen lunch. At home Boruto recognizes Kawaki's sincerity in the new vase yet hands him glue to mend the old one. On the village outskirts, Koji Kashin and Delta arrive, and Koji details the Sensing Unit's history and its ability to detect unfamiliar chakra before slipping across the boundary without setting off any alarm, astonishing Delta and infuriating her when he orders her to wait behind as he sets out to find Kawaki.

The episode belongs to the Kawaki Arc of Boruto: Naruto Next Generations and adapts chapter 28 of the manga. It aired in Japan on 18 April 2021 and in English on 10 January 2023. The opening theme is BAKU and the ending theme is Sign That You Were There. The installment contrasts Kawaki's slow warming to village life with the Kara operatives closing in.
