Submissive to a fault, Cosette obeys the Vinsmoke Family even when their orders bring her harm. Mindful of the household's dignity, she tried to stop Sanji from retrieving food off the floor, insisting she would tidy it herself. Praise undoes her composure entirely, leaving her flustered and overjoyed whenever someone compliments her or her dishes.

While Sanji needled Niji over an unfinished meal, the second prince summoned Cosette and blamed her for food he claimed Sanji had spoiled. As she apologized, Niji hurled the plate toward her face, only for Sanji to snatch it from the air, then ate the spilled food off the floor despite her protests and lavished praise on the dish, moving her to grateful tears. Niji aimed a kick at the pair and only halted on Judge's command, the arrested motion still knocking Cosette down. Later that day he beat her brutally and left her unconscious, and Sanji, finding her in that state, frantically called for a doctor, growing all the angrier when he next faced his brother.
