Hamburg fights for the Foxy Pirates and leads their Groggy Monsters trio. A hulking, ape-faced brute who laughs at almost everything, he helped Foxy cheat through the Davy Back Fight against the Straw Hats and remains one of his captain's last loyal crewmates.
Towering and built like a gorilla, Hamburg wears the standard Foxy Pirate getup, mask and long gloves included, set off by a leopard-spotted scarf. He counts as the runt of the Groggy Monsters even at his enormous size, and a wide grin almost never leaves his face. One 4Kids-edited game recolored him with very dark skin and red clothing in place of his usual blue. His ape-like features make him the third such face in the series, alongside Shoujou and Masira.
Brains are not his strong suit, and like his fellow Groggy Monsters he howls with laughter at nearly anything, be it a successful cheat, a nervous moment, or his own captain's misery. He shares the dishonest streak common to Foxy's crew, seizing any chance to bend the rules, and he greets the world with a signature giggle of "Pupupu." For all that he laughs at Foxy's misfortunes, he plainly admires the man and often hauls him around while lending a hand with his schemes. With his two Groggy Monsters teammates he shares a tight bond that lets the three coordinate seamlessly.
In combat Hamburg is a genuine threat, most of all during the Groggy Ring, where his rapport with his teammates lets the trio overwhelm opponents with fluid combination strikes. True to Foxy form, he stashes illegal gear, iron gauntlets and a pair of clubs, whenever the bribed referee conveniently looks away, fueling the team's brutal Monster Burger finisher alongside moves like the Hamburger Hammer and the combo Size Attack.
After the Foxy Pirates beat the Fanged Toad crew, they goaded Luffy into a Davy Back Fight. Hamburg spent the opening Donut Race serving as Foxy's mount and helping plant obstacles, though their tricks failed to slow the Straw Hat racers until Foxy's Noro Noro powers snatched a tainted win. He then joined the Groggy Ring against Zoro, Sanji, and Chopper. His team's coordination battered the swordsman and cook at first, but Zoro hurled Pickles into him to knock both out, and a later weapons-laden assault collapsed when Sanji sent Hamburg crashing into Big Pan. The Straw Hats took the match, and though shocked that Luffy claimed their Jolly Roger, Hamburg still celebrated the games' end before the crew sailed off vowing revenge.
He resurfaced across several non-canon outings, scheming on Spa Island with the crooked Doran, taking part in the Mushroom Island plot during the Adventure of Nebulandia where Komei briefly captured him, and competing at the Pirates Festival in Stampede. Two years later he was still adrift with Foxy and Porche, scoffing at Vegapunk's worldwide broadcast as utter nonsense.

When I first decided to commit to watching One Piece seriously, I knew I was embarking on one of anime's longest and most beloved series. With over 100...

The transformation everyone knows, the follow-up question nobody would touch. Why we made a smooth R&B track about the golden glow Dragon Ball never talks about....
