Isshi-100

Although the doctors differ in height and build, every one of them dresses the same way. Surgical scrubs, gloves, a mask, and tinted glasses combine to leave almost no skin uncovered. Adding to the uniform look, they tend to hold their hands up in the exaggerated pose of a surgeon ready to operate.

While bound to King Wapol, the doctors privately loathed him just as the rest of the populace did, going along with his demands only so they could keep themselves alive. Witnessing the rogue physician Hiriluk give his life convinced them never to abandon hope, and they kept sharpening their craft in the belief that one day it would let them help their fellow countrymen.

The group began as the twenty doctors who submitted to Wapol during his campaign to hunt down every healer on Drum Island, a purge meant to make the people beg him for treatment. Those twenty earned the name Isshi-20 and were the island's only physicians apart from Kureha and Hiriluk. After Wapol staged a false rumor that the corps had fallen ill, Hiriluk rushed to the castle, discovered the deception, and took his own life before them. When the Blackbeard Pirates drove Wapol off the island, he dragged the Isshi-20 along with him.

Upon his return, the doctors patched up Wapol even after Dalton struck off his head, and the king then deserted them in an avalanche. Surviving that, they saved a gravely wounded Dalton and won the trust of the townsfolk. Once Wapol was beaten for good, the islanders forgave the physicians and welcomed them back. Two years on, the corps swelled to a hundred members serving Kureha at the Sakura Kingdom's medical center, adopting a new banner that joins the cross on Chopper's hat to an outline resembling the one Hiriluk wore.
