A tricorne bearing his Jolly Roger sits atop long, curly black hair, and he dresses in a shirt, polka-dotted pants, a foulard at the throat, a cape, and a waist sash that stores several of his many weapons.

His mind drew little comment, though Sentomaru flatly judged him gullible enough to fall for the imposters' scheme. The anime paints him as a daredevil who admired the courage of the Marines opposing him and actually looked forward to squaring off against a Pacifista, a thrill that ended in swift defeat.

Merely surviving the journey to the Sabaody Archipelago hints at genuine strength, and Demalo Black argued that if the Pacifistas could fell Doughty in seconds, the cyborgs were unbeatable. He kept an array of arms on him: a saber, a pistol slung from his sash, and later a serrated sword whose teeth recalled Arlong's Kiribachi, though it snapped when a Pacifista struck him. He had assembled at Grove 46 with the other recruits, cheered the false Luffy, then ended up flattened by a Pacifista and rounded up by Sentomaru, his 88,000,000 berry bounty struck through.
