Saint Marcus Mars

Towering yet gaunt, Mars is an aged man whose long white hair is matched by a mustache and a goatee that descend nearly to his chest. His outfit pairs a dark suit, rendered navy in the anime and colored manga, with a black necktie, a white buttoned shirt, and trousers of the same deep blue.

Mars shares the Elders' obsession with guarding the global equilibrium upheld by the Three Great Powers, and that includes burying every trace of the Void Century. Anyone caught probing that history is ordered destroyed, though when he condemned Ohara's scholars he showed visible sorrow, a flicker of conscience beneath the cruelty. Toward the Nefertari line's choice to leave Mary Geoise he is harsh, branding them traitors, while he treats Imu as a creator whose commands are absolute. He stays composed where his colleagues falter, keeps detailed knowledge of his targets, and prizes his own kind so little that he warned Rob Lucci he could not promise Kaku's survival, likening the agent to a bug at risk of being trodden on. Pressure, however, can crack his calm: he twice floated reckless plans to halt Vegapunk's broadcast by leveling entire facilities, drawing rebuke from the other Elders.

Among the Five Elders, Mars holds an authority that towers over ordinary World Nobles, commanding the Marines, the police, and Cipher Pol alike, with even the Fleet Admiral powerless to defy him. He can call down a Buster Call, rewrite the historical record, and direct the Pacifista and Seraphim. He ate the Mythical Zoan Itsumade fruit, letting him become a vast serpent-bodied bird with a fanged human face, an awakening signaled by dark smoky flames at his shoulders. In beast form he flies swiftly, shrugs off lasers and point-blank fire, and unleashes destructive energy beams from his mouth. A covenant with Imu renders him effectively immortal through instant healing, and like Saturn he barely ages. He also commands powerful Haki, including the rare Conqueror's variety and keen Observation, and carries a flintlock he meant to use on Cobra.
