Pike

Tanned and coarse-featured, Pike has small beady eyes set above a flat nose, thick lips, heavy brows, and oddly rounded teeth, framed by scruffy brown hair and a goatee. His getup combines a brown shirt, blue pants, and black boots with a brown G-5 cloak and a white Marine cap worn at a tilt. The anime initially gave him lighter hair, no beard, and a bare chest beneath his vest.

Honor and resolve drive him. He holds the memory of his fallen comrades sacred and swears to keep Tashigi safe in their name, yet he stays clear-headed enough to argue that their deaths must not derail the mission to free the kidnapped children and catch Caesar Clown. A softer side shows in how readily he is smitten by lovely women, first with Tashigi and later upon meeting Monet.

Pike first turns up cheering Tashigi on as she defends the G-5 ship from raiders near Fish-Man Island. The bulk of his story unfolds on Punk Hazard, where Smoker leads the branch to investigate a samurai distress call. The Marines run into Trafalgar Law, watch in horror as he cuts Tashigi apart and later steals Smoker's heart, then endure the mind-swap that lands Tashigi in Smoker's body. Pike repeatedly survives Law's attacks, the betrayal by Vergo, and the spreading Shinokuni gas, at one point catching Tashigi as she is thrown through a closing gate and shouting his thanks to the comrades who shielded her.

Through the rest of the island crisis he sticks close to Sanji's group, helping sedate the drugged children and carry the gravely hurt Mocha to safety, then loading everyone onto a rail car to flee the collapsing lab. Outside, he insists on a strict border between the Marines and the Straw Hats even as both sides quietly admit their gratitude, only for Doflamingo to arrive and crush them, leaving Smoker bloodied until Kuzan intervenes. Pike's final notable moment comes during the Levely, where he and Bomba watch Tashigi mind the children and earn a scolding for slacking.
