Episode 1090 opens the Egghead Arc. Jinbe dives to rescue Luffy, Chopper, and a mysterious girl from a metal shark, a towering robot saves the rest of the crew, and the Straw Hats arrive at the science island where Vegapunk lives.
Battered by fierce winds and a giant shark trying to swallow the Thousand Sunny, the crew survives thanks to Jinbe at the wheel. The attacker turns out to be built of iron, far larger than any natural shark. When Luffy, Chopper, and a young girl tumble overboard, Jinbe hands the helm to Franky and uses Rabbit Screw to outpace the shark and haul the three from the water. As torpedoes roll the Sunny and the ship begins to sink, a massive robot piloted by a stranger appears and drives the shark off, sparing the remaining pirates.
The castaways wash ashore on an island, where the girl, now grown to adulthood, reveals herself as Jewelry Bonney. She teases Luffy about his new wanted poster and questions whether he is truly an Emperor. Bonney names the place as Egghead, a Government island and home of the scientist Vegapunk, with whom she has unfinished business. At a Marine branch, Tashigi tends to children recovering from forced growth, while Helmeppo and Hibari beg Prince Grus for aid in freeing Koby from Hachinosu. Above the wreck, the robot's pilot thanks Franky for nothing, admits the shark malfunctioned, and stuns the crew by announcing she is the famed Dr. Vegapunk.
