With Usopp back aboard, the crew stays under fire from Garp. Franky has Zoro furl the sails so a concealed getaway device can charge, but he refuses to launch before the vessel has a name. Luffy floats a run of ridiculous animal mashups, until the figurehead, lion-shaped yet so often taken for a sunflower by the Galley-La crew, sparks an idea in Iceburg. He envisions a vessel able to sail a thousand seas as radiantly as the sun, and so the name Thousand Sunny is proposed. Over Franky's own lion-themed pitch, the crew settles on Iceburg's choice.

As Garp hurls an absurdly oversized cannonball, Franky triggers his Coup de Burst, three barrels of cola flinging the Sunny into the sky and clear of danger. Even Aokiji is taken aback, and Garp laughs with a trace of pride at his grandson's escape. Usopp remembers the Going Merry's ascent up the Knock Up Stream, and Franky boasts that the old ship's spirit endures in the Sunny. Back in Water 7, the giants Oimo and Kashii pitch in on repairs, and Iceburg hands the broke Franky Family jobs at Galley-La.

News of the bounties travels far. Smoker swears he will crush Luffy in the New World, Zeff and the Baratie cooks mock Sanji's awful likeness yet proudly hang it, and Foosha Village toasts Luffy's rising notoriety to Woop Slap's annoyance. Syrup Village pegs Sogeking as Usopp, Koushiro reflects on having trained Zoro, and at Cocoyasi, Nojiko assures Genzo that Nami's grin proves Luffy never robbed her of it. Vivi calmly takes the news of Robin's new allegiance, and at Baltigo the Revolutionary leader Dragon, Luffy's father, looks forward to the day they meet. The episode introduces Terry Gilteo and the location Baltigo, and notes minor animation slips such as a misspelled bar sign and Dalton's disappearing beard.
