The whale sharks carry the freed prisoners over the water toward the Marine vessel Jinbe has seized, the crowd hopping aboard one after another. The inmates celebrate and thank the sharks, though Jinbe cautions that a single barrier still divides them from open sea. Enraged, Magellan calls for a ship to run them down and see the death sentence carried out. Marine guns open up on the stolen vessel, but Jinbe refuses to slow while Crocodile and Luffy swat away the incoming cannonballs.
The Gate of Justice can only be operated from inside Impel Down, yet it starts to swing open without orders. As Magellan prepares to board his ship he sees the gate splitting apart and rushes back inside, only for the guards to find a duplicate of him already standing there. The double is Bentham, who remained behind to take the controls. When the real warden demands the gate sealed, the false Magellan overrules him, and Bentham wrecks the panel with Memoirs of a Desert Kingdom so the guards cannot stop the departing ship.

With the gate beginning to close, Luffy understands that his friend gave up his own escape, and the prisoners scramble to reach Bentham on a baby Den Den Mushi before the line dies. Bentham calls out for Luffy to go save Ace, recalls the days they shared in the prison, and charges Magellan declaring that friendship can bloom even within hell itself. The gate locks shut with 241 inmates having gotten away, Ace's execution now four hours off, and one flower petal drifting on the water.
