Summary

Don Chinjao recounts Garp's terrifying name and the scars the Marine left on him, swearing to take that grudge out on Luffy, who keeps repeating that he is merely Lucy. Cavendish unsheathes his celebrated blade Durandal, intent on cutting the captain down should he prove to be the real Straw Hat. Chinjao barrels into the pair, and spectators are stunned that his skull can stop a sword and his blows seem beyond human. Once Luffy at last snaps and drives Chinjao into the floor, the old fighter gets back up unscathed, and stories spread through the stands of how his headbutt once split a frozen continent apart.

Sai and Boo show up to hold Chinjao back, cautioning that being disqualified would wreck the true purpose behind their entry. They point out that Luffy is in Block C along with them, where killing him in the ring carries no penalty. Cavendish, unwilling to wait, decides to end Luffy before the match, but the captain has already vanished and now dangles from a window ledge, remembering the promise he made to Franky.

The announcer reports that Tank Lepanto has fallen to Abdullah and Jeet through underhanded means, trimming the field to thirty. Blue Gilly strikes Ricky, while the fish-man Hack flattens a bigot using a punch rated at four thousand tiles and presses his people to fight with their own fists instead of leaning on Jinbe. Sickened by Bartolomeo relieving himself into the lake, Hack assaults him from behind, only for his hand to break apart while Bartolomeo remains wholly untouched, leaving the audience baffled.

Notes

This episode introduces the Mukkashimi Tower and the Bari Bari no Mi. Where the manga shows Chinjao using headbutts on Luffy before being floored, here he throws punches instead. Gatz notes that the bigot who jeered at Hack over being a fish-man counted as the eighteenth foe Hack put away during the contest. The anime portrays how Abdullah and Jeet bring Tank Lepanto down and keeps Hack's hand injury off-screen rather than depicting the blood seen in print. The installment ends on an extreme zoom into Bartolomeo's pupil.
