Wanda finishes recounting the mink tribe's struggle against Jack, which dragged on for five days until the impatient Disaster unleashed a poisonous gas that felled the defenders. The Beasts Pirates then massacred many minks and strung up Inuarashi, Nekomamushi, and the strongest warriors for a day of torture before Jack departed. In the present, Inuarashi reveals Jack left to rescue Doflamingo, meaning the Straw Hats on Dressrosa indirectly spared Zou. The flashback then follows Sanji's group, who reach the wrecked dukedom and find the gas-choked capital.

Nekomamushi's fast, staggering duel with Jack lands several solid hits, but the Disaster proves far hardier than expected. The Musketeers and Guardians rotated in and out for days, and even with reinforcements arriving by sea, the minks slowly gained ground, though no one could topple Jack himself. Frustrated, Jack ended it with Caesar Clown's gas weapon. Robin deduces the weapon passed from Caesar to Doflamingo to Kaidou, enraging Luffy at Caesar. Twelve days back, the gas swept Kurau City, downing Wanda, Inuarashi, and the Musketeers; the strongest were crucified and tortured for a full day. Inuarashi explains he read Jack's obituary and realized the pirate had gone to save Doflamingo. The flashback then shows Sanji, Chopper, Nami, Brook, Momonosuke, and Caesar landing on Zou, Brook freezing the ground with Soul Solid to save Tristan from Sheepshead and Ginrummy, and the heavily wounded Pedro begging Sanji's group to save the two rulers, who hang unconscious and maimed at their crosses.

The anime expands the Jack clashes, adds the three Musketeers shielding Inuarashi from Gifters, and inserts Luffy's reaction to the gas weapon. Inuarashi now physically shows the crew the newspaper detailing Jack's reported death. Brook's debut of Eisbahn appears here. The timing of when Caesar's gas is first mentioned differs from the manga, and the crucified rulers are shown with less blood than the original.
